Week Of October 2nd

Highlights From Last Week....

Wow, it is October already!! We are finally starting to settle into a routine. It is amazing to see how much progress we have made within just a few weeks.

In Reader's Workshop, we learned about the three ways to read: Looking at the picture, reading the words and retelling the story. The children are practicing asking themselves "who is in the picture" and "what is going on in the picture. We continued practicing turning and talking.

In Writer's Workshop, we practiced adding details to our stories and also practiced using our sight words to form sentences for our stories. The children LOVE reading and sharing their stories in the class.

In Math, we worked on decomposing numbers to 3 and learned that 1+2=3. We also started looking at numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3. We learned how to write the numbers and used the numeral to represent a quantity.

In Phonics, we learned the sight words "see" and "go", please practice these words at home. So far, our words are: I, like, can, go and see. Our letters of the week were u & i.

In Social Studies, we continued learning about what it looks like to be a member of the school community.

Great job reading with your child!

HELP!!

Our classroom is filling up with clothes that have no home! Please LABEL EVERYTHING!! If your child is missing sweatshirts or lunch boxes, please let me know.

Thank you!!

Notes from Mrs. Maillet

Thank you for having such great children! I am so proud of the progress that we have made so far! This week in math, we had our first mid module assessment. They did a fantastic job! We do need some work on writing our numbers, there are a lot of reversals with the numbers 2, 3 and 4. If you can, please practice writing the numbers with your children at home. I will continue to work on it at school, but if you could practice as well, they will be number writing masters!!! Thank you!!

Thank you for reading with your child. They are already developing a love for reading! I LOVE it when our timer goes off to stop reading and they BEG for more time to read! Keep up the great work!!

Notes from Ms. Driscoll

Another fabulous week in Ms. Driscoll's room, it is so nice getting to know each child more and more. We have already made great progress! I cannot wait to see what the children can learn this week and as the year goes on.

A flyer was sent home Friday regarding the book fair. An October calendar was also sent home on Friday with upcoming dates and times for the fair, as well as other things going on during October. This month we are going to start inviting Mystery Readers to our classroom! Please let me know if you are interested.

I will be sending home copies of our letter cards and sight words so that you can practice with your child at home. They have done really well with the movements that go along with the sight word cards! Ask them to share with you.

Have a great week!

Notes from Mrs. Marcoux

We had such a great week, I am so proud of your children! They did an amazing job with number writing, letter writing and even some addition. We still have some reversals, but that's to be expected at this stage. We will keep working on it throughout the year.

The children love reading from their book bags. One of our students even got to read to our principal this week. It's so much fun to see their excitement when things start to click. Ask them about the 3 ways to read a book!

We have our Book Fair this week, the students will be able to purchase books if you'd like. All you need to do is send in the order form and payment and the children can purchase the books during lunch. We are also having a night time fair on Thursday from 5:30-7:00.

Have a great week!

Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite

I have a class that Rocks! They are doing a super job with formation of our letters this week. In math we have been working on writing numbers and learning a few poems that help us learn the formation of those numbers. So much fun!

Thank you for the great classroom supplies. It is much appreciated. Clorox wipes are always needed. Looking for some homemade or store bought play-dough.

Monday is PTO at 6 pm. They meet in the parent room. Child care is provided.

Next week we will have our Book Fair. The students can buy books during the lunch block. Please send money in an envelope with name and for what. The night time book fair is on Thursday 5:30 to 7pm. Come join the fun.

It is noticeable that many of you find time to read to your child. Thanks and keep up the great work! They LOVE going to the PRIZE box!

Notes from Mrs. Potter

We had another busy week filled with lots of great learning!! The kids are really starting to notice the letters and sight words that they know and enjoy finding them all over the place! We have some great writers and we are filling up our writer's workshop notebooks with lots of stories!
