NGSS
As leaders supporting teachers experimenting (pardon the play on words) with NGSS segments, there are a few key areas in which you can provide encouragement:
- Science Notebooks - we encourage all teachers to develop science notebooks with their students
- Phenomenon - we encourage all teachers to begin science lessons with a phenomenon, something to spark curiosity and interest in the topic
- 5 E's - Science lessons follow the structure of Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate - We encourage all teachers to build an engage activity in to the beginning of lessons. This can be a photo, a video, or a question that sparks interest and dialogue in the topic to be studied.
- Our TOSAs are available and happy to model lessons, co-teach, co-plan, and support NGSS work in all classrooms.
NGSS PD for all teachers this year. PD will take place in the ECC MPR from 8:30-3:00 each day, with half day planning time provided. Please share this information with teachers and Office Managers to arrange subs, as this begins soon! We are asking all principals to attend at least one NGSS PD session, so you are learning alongside your teachers.

SSC Training
We have heard that a district-wide SSC Training (for you and your SSC) would be beneficial. We are considering offering a workshop on one of the dates below. If your site has a preference, or cannot do one of these dates, please let Amy/ Rachel B. know ASAP. We will confirm the date and location once finalized.
