Parent Newsletter February 8-February 12
HELLO PARENTS!
PEEK AT THE WEEK!
Math: In math this week, we are continuing our unit on fractions. Be on the look out for a lot of resources over the quarter to support your child in this area.
Language Arts: We will continue accountability in daily five this week! Each day, the students will track their choices and what they accomplished during each round. Students will have the option to listen to reading, read to someone, read to self, work on words, and work on writing.
-We are beginning our unit on theme in poetry! I am super excited for this unit and the amount of depth and analysis that it is going to pull from our students!
In writing, we will be continuing our creative writing narrative unit.
Social Studies: We are continuing our unit on significant historical events and groups in North Carolina.
BILTMORE FIELD TRIP!
We will be visiting Biltmore on Thursday, February 18th. That is this Thursday! Because we are on such a tight schedule for this deadline, all Biltmore permission forms and money must be turned in by Monday February 15th. The cost of this trip is $25. This covers everything, including your child's lunch at the Biltmore House. If your child has any dietary restrictions that I don't already know about, please let me know so that I can ensure we have a meal option for them!
If you have any questions or concerns about this field trip, please contact me! We do have partial scholarships available. If you think you may need a scholarship, please contact me as soon as possible so I can make arrangements.
On this trip we learn about historical NC landmark, the Biltmore house. Students in 4th grade are learning about North Carolina history, specifically landmarks and people important to NC history. The Biltmore house is located right in our back yard and a wonderful opportunity to learn more about George Vanderbilt and the house he built.
Students will have a guided tour through the Biltmore house and learn more about the "how" and "why" of the house that Mr. Vanderbilt built. They will experience North Carolina living before a time with the amenities we have now. Students will be able to ask tour guides questions as they walk through the house.
After we tour the house, students will eat lunch at Deerpark Restaurant and use the skills we learned in our etiquette lesson with Ms. Dechant.
The dress code for this trip is nice clothing that students would wear to a play, show or other big event. Please no athletic shorts, shirts or sweat pants on this day! We love dressing up and having fun and want to teach kids the importance of looking nice in public and at a "fancy" location.
Thank you for your support, we are so excited about this awesome field trip opportunity!
