Hightower Elementary - October 2021

Big picture

DCSD Schools will be closed for Fall Break Oct 7, 2021 (Thu)- Oct. 11, 2021 (Mon).

Principal's Message

October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Bullying, harassment, and hazing are harmful and can prevent students from reaching their greatest potential. Bullying, intimidation, and harassment diminish a student's ability to learn. Preventing students from engaging in these disruptive behaviors and providing all students equal access to a safe, non-hostile learning environment are important goals for Hightower Elementary.

DCSD has a "BULLYING STOPS HERE" Awareness Campaign to stop bullying, harassment, and hazing in schools. This month students will learn more about what bullying is and what to do if they are a victim of bullying. Parents can help by encouraging students to tell an adult when there is a problem.

Safety is the priority!

  • Please be kind to the carpool volunteers who are charged with keeping all children safe. Follow all traffic laws and other directives by our staff in an effort to keep our students safe.
  • Be patient. You may arrive for drop-off as early as 7:15 a.m. We will have teachers on duty at 7:15 a.m. to unload cars.
  • Please do NOT get out of your car while in the carpool lane.
  • Be prepared to have your child exit the car quickly. Backpacks and school items should be in the car with your child. It takes a bit of time to get these items out of the trunk or rear hatch.
  • Watch for pedestrians.
  • Consider riding the bus. We have staff available to receive bus riders at 7:00 a.m., so please have your child ride the bus. We start school at 7:50 a.m. and this is a good way to ensure they are on time.
  • Announcements begin at 7:45. Students should be in their seat and ready for the day to begin. Please arrive before 7:45 so that students are on time.
  • Thank you for helping us keep our children safe!

DeKalb County School District announces the launch of the Edulog Parent Portal smartphone app. The app is designed to give parents and guardians information about their child’s school bus ride. The app allows parents and guardians to follow their child’s bus on a real-time map and stay up-to-date with notifications when that bus nears the bus stop, the school, or a custom alert zone. Parents and guardians only receive access by registering with data unique to their child. It allows you to:

  • access designated bus stop times and locations
  • see real-time information about the location of your child’s school bus
  • receive notifications when the bus is getting close
