Reminders:
Time to think about scheduling your Flu Shots! Please be advised that it is the Connecticut State Law that all children attending child care have a seasonal flu vaccine if they are between 6 to 59 months by December 31st, 2021. Please be sure your child gets their flu shot unless you have proper documentation stating they cannot get the vaccine.
ALL CENTERS:
Please make sure you are following your scheduled hours. This helps keep state-mandated ratios in order as per the amount of staff that is scheduled. If you need to change your hours to earlier or later please give proper notice to the office so we can adjust our staff schedules. Also please make sure you are staying within the 9 ½ hour guidelines for each day that you have contracted with us.
Soon cool weather will be here. Please be sure to check your child’s extra clothes bins and bring home bathing suits and towels. It is important that your child has a change of clothes be sure you read your child’s daily to see if they need any items, we do not have spare clothes at the centers.
Please make sure you are giving a two-week notice to the director for any schedule changes. Also, please be sure you call the center if your child will be late or absent. We kindly ask that you call before 9:30 am. This allows for our teachers to plan their day accordingly.

Portfolios/Assessments-
Our staff uses a process of documentation that aligns with the CT Early Learning Standards to record children’s growth and development. Through photographs, anecdotes, and children’s work samples, teachers put together a visual account of each child’s accomplishments. Using recognized developmental milestones, growth in the following seven areas of development are assessed:
Thinking, Reasoning, and Problem Solving
Emotional and Social Competency
Language and Communication
Gross Motor Development
Fine Motor Development
Reading and Writing Development
Creative Development
The Assessment process recognizes and celebrates that all children develop at different rates and with various strengths. Collections are completed for fall and spring and kept in their portfolio binder as long as the child is enrolled in the program. At the end of the child’s enrollment, the portfolio becomes a memento to be taken home and treasured. This collection is a representation of the child as an individual with distinct interests, background, skills, and desires. Teachers will meet with you in family/teacher conferences twice a year to share these treasured collections and celebrate the accomplishments of your child. This is the time that you will also share information on the growth and development of your child. Conferences are an ideal time to share expectations and your family philosophies. A conference can be scheduled at any time outside these set dates.

Family Communication-
At Carelot, we believe that communication between home and school is very important. We would appreciate it if you would advise your child (ren)’s teachers of any important information or changes in your family life which may affect your little one’s daily child care experience. Open communication between parents/guardians and teachers is a valuable tool in providing quality care for your child and will always remain confidential.
On a daily basis, communication between families and staff ensures a smooth transition for your child. A “Notes to the Teacher” log is available in each classroom for families to write down information that they may wish to communicate to the staff on an informal basis. You can also message your child's teachers using the parent communication app where you will also find daily information about your child's day. Any confidential information or concerns should be briefly discussed with the teachers. Mailboxes are also located in each classroom. Please check them daily. It is here that you can find important notices, daily reports, newsletters, director’s reports, and more! A parent bulletin board can be found in each of the classrooms containing current information regarding curriculum, daily schedules, and general information.
