PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello New Tech Families,

There is much to celebrate these days at New Tech! Our student clubs and sponsors have been busy connecting and giving back to the community. We begin the month of February with a focus on Black History and the significant contributions made by African Americans, impacting our country, community, and schools. New Tech’s Black Student Union spent much time planning and developing meaningful activities and informational videos to help celebrate and champion Black History! Other clubs have been busy volunteering their time and energy to help with community projects. I am very proud of these students and staff that are demonstrating kindness, caring and service to community.

I want to thank all off our parents who participated virtually for our 2nd semester parent/teacher conferences. Please continue to reach out to our teachers if you have continued questions or concerns regarding your child’s academic progress. You may have seen the parent link to complete the 5Essentials Survey on our website or bulletin, I would ask all parents consider completing the survey. Parental feedback and opinions are welcomed and valued! As always, I look forward to creating more great days for our students and staff!

In partnership,

Bonnie Felske

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS

New Tech's Black Student Union (BSU) kicked off Black History Month on Tuesday with a focus on "Activism" and highlighting those that have worked tirelessly for the civil rights of the African American community. Daily announcements, a weeklong slide show, an introductory video from the BSU, and a transformed cafeteria have made an impact already in the first week. The following weeks will focus on "Contributions to the Arts", "Academics and Historically Black Colleges and Universities", and "Community Spotlight".

Join us for the events happening at New Tech and the ZBTHS Performing Arts Center throughout the month. For more information, please visit the NTZB website.

ILLINOIS 5ESSENTIALS SURVEY

If you have not completed the annual 5Essentials Survey: Organizing Schools for Improvement, please do so before the survey closes. Your participation is vital and provides feedback to the Illinois State Board of Education regarding the following five indicators:

Effective Leaders -- Collaborative Teachers -- Involved Families

Supportive Environments -- Ambitious Instruction

This survey generates valuable data that districts can use to guide their ongoing efforts to improve schools and to offer students an excellent education. The survey is another improvement tool that allows districts and the state to share data as a means to inform parents and community members about the school’s learning environment. (From the ISBE website.)

The SURVEY is now open and will close on March 11, 2022.

NTZB CLUBS UNITE FOR COMMUNITY LOVE

Big picture
On Wednesday February 2, several New Tech clubs collaborated after school in assembling Valentine's Day love bags for seniors and veterans. The clubs working on the project were Interact, Healthy Youth, NHS, and Bee Leaders. This was an excellent example of New Tech students making a difference in our community. They assembled over 100 bags which included a Covid-19 safety kit (hand sanitizer, masks, educational materials to help you wear, clean, and keep your masks), small bags of candy, socks, stress balls and custom wristbands.

SPAGHETTI DINNER...IS SERVED!

The Rotarians and Interact Club worked tirelessly preparing and delivering spaghetti dinners including a salad and cookies. These were then delivered within the Lake County community and residential seniors in Beach Park Zion and Winthrop Harbor. Three Interact Students (Valeria Alvarez, Kingsley Brown, and Byran Dassault) helped deliver 140 meals last Saturday, January 29th. Well done, BEES!!!
