Facilities Improvements
The Board reviewed the Half Day School property site plan to consider reconfiguring the parking lots for better traffic flow during drop off and pick up times as well as to allow for another 42 spots. The site plan also showed placement for adding classroom space onto the building, if ever needed. The Board directed the Administration to add the parking lot project to the District’s five-year Facility Improvement Planning Matrix for future consideration.
Following input from the Board at a prior meeting, Administration shared an updated five-year Facility Improvement Planning Matrix schedule for the district’s three schools. Projects for the upcoming school year include improvements to the heating ventilating and air conditioning units and security enhancements.
Sixth Day Enrollment
Administration shared sixth day enrollment figures with the Board, which showed little enrollment fluctuations over last year. Overall, there are 1,900 students in grades early childhood through eighth-grade enrolled in D103 schools for the 2022-2023 school year. There are 537 students at Sprague, 593 students at Half Day and 770 students at Daniel Wright.
Transportation Update
While the District has been forced to cancel bus routes this month due to a shortage of drivers, Dr. Scott Warren, Superintendent, said the driver shortage will improve with the hiring of seven drivers. Last month, the Board increased bus drivers’ hourly rates making them competitive with surrounding districts and companies. Dr. Warren explained that driver training takes time and it could be as late as the end of October before the District is fully staffed.
Board Member Committee Assignments
The Board reviewed which members would serve on various district committees. A final determination will occur at the next Board meeting.
