DECA - Career and Technical Student Organization
What is DECA and why should my student join?!
Great questions! DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA members gain 21st Century Skills, are prepared to become leaders and DECA members are motivated for the future! DECA combines leadership conferences and competition this school year to help them be the best they can! I’ve been the DECA Advisor in Lake Orion for 19 years and each year I love watching students grow and achieve things they didn’t think we possible! If this sounds like something for you, please stop by room 101 at 2:45 pm on Tuesdays for our meetings. For more information, check out the link below to learn more about DECA!
See you there! Julia Dalrymple julia.dalrymple@lok12.org
School Dismissal Manager
Beginning this week, we will begin utilizing School Dismissal Manager (SDM), a program for parents to communicate early student departures. LOHS successfully used the SDM program last year. It is accessible on either computer or smartphone, allowing parents the opportunity to officially submit an early dismissal request without calling the school.
On approximately September 22, you should have received a communication from School Dismissal Manager with additional details. Parents are encouraged to check their designated email accounts. Also, be advised the message might be redirected to your “junk” folders. The welcome email from SDM provides all relevant information necessary to activate and begin using your account.
Senior Ads for Yearbook
The Dragon Yearbook would like to offer you the opportunity to say goodbye to your graduating senior. Senior parent ads for the 2022-2023 yearbook are being sold until Friday, December 16, 2022. We encourage early submissions, though, because space is limited.
Ads submitted after this deadline cannot be guaranteed a place in the yearbook.
GRIT
At LOHS, we strive to be intentional about supporting students beyond just academics. To be successful and well-rounded, LOHS proactively seeks to develop each student’s character traits that will serve them well in the future. The school-wide commitment here at LOHS involves recognizing, dignifying, and rewarding students for demonstrating the qualities of Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, and Tenacity (GRIT). When staff members witness students exemplifying these admirable characteristics, they write out a “ticket” describing the pupil’s positive actions.
GRIT winners are awarded prizes, which greatly enhances this recognition program and creates excitement and enthusiasm among the student body. We are currently looking for donations from local business (or community members). If you or your business are interested in donating to the GRIT program, please reach out to Rosa Everitt. You may also drop off your donations to the main office or Safe Ed. Donation letters are available for tax deductions.
Past donations have included, gift cards to local establishments, candy, LO gear, fidgets, etc.
Looking for something to do after school? LOHS offers a multitude of clubs and organizations after school for all!
For questions about GAP, please reach out to our GAP Coordinator: Stephen.Kimball@lok12.org

Career Readiness
Career Readiness
Xello
Xello is FERPA approved online program that we at LOCS use to help students prepare for the future, whether it is preparing for their time at Lake Orion or beyond. This program offers a variety of activities from kindergarten to the end of high school. These activities help students build self-knowledge, explore their post-secondary options, and create achievable plans. They develop the 21st-century skills needed to thrive in the world of work.
Students have been working on their Educational Development Plans (EDP) in Xello. In addition, this platform is used to help students build a talent portfolio and schedule their classes for their following year here in the district.
Parents who are interested in accessing the Xello Family Portal may do so through an online Microsoft Form.
Xello offers a number of online Resources for parents to navigate and Get Started. However, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to:

Xello Requirements & Documents
Last Week Wednesday, students worked on their EDPs on Xello. While we had some technical difficulties with Power School, I am happy to report we had over 2000 logins!
As mentioned previously, EDPs are not only required by law, but are a graduation requirement.
Attached, our Dragons Families can find the 9-12th grade requirements for their EDP.
For any student who is having trouble remembering their PW, please feel free to email ANY of the following people to request a temporary one.
OK2Say
OK2SAY is available state-wide for public and private schools in Michigan; anybody can submit a confidential tip. Specially trained technicians receive the tips and filter the information to the appropriate agency to provide a timely and effective response.
