Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures
To ensure a smooth and efficient drop-off and pick-up process, kindly adhere to the following guidelines:
- Drop-off Time: Our student drop-off process begins promptly at 7:00 AM, with the designated drop-off point at the cafeteria door. At 7:30 AM, we will open the drop-off door to accommodate more students.
- Drop-off Lane Closure: It's important to note that at 7:54 AM, the drop-off lanes will be closed. If you arrive after this time, parents and guardians must sign their students in at the front desk. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
- Class Start Times: Our 8th-grade classes will commence at 7:54 AM, while 7th and 6th-grade classes will begin at 8:00 AM. Ensuring that your child is in their classroom at the appropriate time will ensure a smooth start to their academic day.
- Traffic Flow: Please remember to use both lanes around the school building for drop-off and pick-up. This will create a one-way loop and streamline the process.
- Drop-off Procedure: As you approach the drop-off area, remind your student to be prepared to exit the vehicle safely. Pull up all the way to the front to drop off, allowing the line to move faster.
- Dismissal Times: To prevent any delays, we kindly ask that you refrain from arriving on campus before the designated dismissal times. Dismissal times are as follows:
- 8th Grade classes: 2:45 PM (1:47 PM on Wednesdays)
- 7th and 6th Grade classes: 2:50 PM (1:52 PM on Wednesdays)
- PikMyKid: Announce your arrival using the PikMyKid app during dismissal. Pull forward when there is an open space in front of your vehicle. This helps other students see their rides and reduces delays. Information on how to register is below.
- Carline Safety:
- Please refrain from exiting your vehicle when in the carline. This includes siblings.
- We urge you not to drop off or pick up students on Lynx Lane or park at neighboring businesses at any time.
- Avoid stopping in the middle lane for student pick-up, as this lane is designated for exits only.
- The speed limit is 4 miles per hour.
- Please stop for students crossing
- Aftercare Program: Our commitment to the safety and well-being of our students extends beyond the school day. With that in mind, we want to inform you that the school will be closed at 4:00 PM. Any students who remain on campus after this time must be registered in our aftercare program.
- Payment Plans and Registration: We understand that each family's needs are unique, which is why we offer various payment plans for our aftercare program. Whether you're seeking daily, monthly, or annual options, we have a plan that suits your preferences. Details on the available payment plans and how to register your students can be found below.
- Important Procedure: If a student is on campus after 4:00 PM and is not registered for aftercare, our protocol requires us to contact the parents or guardians. If we are unable to locate parents or guardians, and make suitable arrangements by 4:15 PM, we may have to involve the authorities to ensure the students' safety. The safety and care of our students remain our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
What is Delayed Dismissal? 30/30 Rule?
The “30/30 Rule" is a Delayed Dismissal Weather procedure that is nationally recognized. It is required that the “30/30 Rule” be enacted by the school if thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a lightning strike. Orlando Science Middle/High follows this rule.
When 30/30 Rule is implemented, students will not be dismissed until 30 minutes has passed from the last sound of thunder. However, parents/guardians who wish to pick up their child/children during delayed dismissal, will be allowed to sign out their child/children at the cafeteria or front office.
In order to pick up your student(s) from the cafeteria or front office during this procedure, parents/guardians must bring their dismissal sign to the front door of the school to sign their child/children out. If you do not have a dismissal sign, you will need to provide a picture ID and be on the school pick-up list to pick-up the child/children. Bus riders will be delivered home when conditions are all safe for dismissal.
An automated telephone and/or email message will be used to notify parents/guardians about delayed dismissals. Always be sure to update the school when your phone or email information changes. Thank you for your cooperation on our students’ safety.

NEW CHROMEBOOK POLICY AND 23-24 STUDENT FEE LINK - PLEASE SEE BELOW!
EXCITING NEWS!
One-to-One Technology: In our commitment to prepare students for the ever-changing world, we are implementing a one-to-one technology program, ensuring that each student has access to the necessary tools for academic success. The Chromebooks will serve as a powerful learning tool, promoting creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills among our students.
What's Included?? As part of this program, each student will be issued the following essential items:
1. Chromebook: A Chromebook will be assigned to your child, allowing them to complete assignments, access digital textbooks, engage in online research, and work collaboratively with their peers.
2. Student Locker: Each student will receive a locker to store their belongings, ensuring a safe and organized environment throughout the school day.
3. Student ID: The student ID will provide access to various school resources and facilities, as well as serve as identification during school events.
4. Agenda: To help students stay organized and manage their time effectively, a student agenda will be provided
Student Fee: To cover the cost of these items and ensure a seamless distribution process, a one-time student fee of $60 will be required. This fee includes not only the Chromebook, locker, student ID, and agenda but also a Chromebook damage insurance policy. A school pay link will be provided below.
Chromebook Damage Insurance Policy: We understand that accidents can happen, and to provide peace of mind for both parents and students, we are offering a Chromebook damage insurance policy as part of the student fee. This policy will cover accidental damage to the Chromebook, such as spills, drops, and other unforeseen incidents. With the insurance, you can rest assured that any necessary repairs or replacements will be covered, minimizing any potential financial burden. Please see the attached agreement form for more information.
We highly encourage families to complete the payment at their earliest convenience to ensure a smooth distribution process and allow students to begin utilizing their Chromebooks, agendas, and lockers from the first day of school. Thank you for your continuous support, and we look forward to an extraordinary academic year ahead.

FORTIFYFL APP
See the important message below regarding FortifyFlorida:
Any student, educator, parent or member of the public can report school safety concerns directly to law enforcement and school administrators anonymously and easily through the FortifyFL app or www.getfortifyfl.com. The Florida Legislature directed this tool’s development in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.
The app, which is available for download on Apple and Android mobile devices, is critical to ensuring all Florida schools are safe environments where students and educators can experience and share the joy of learning without fear.
We hope that you will become familiar with this tool and help us spread the word about it with your students and their families. Please note that the official app’s logo will look exactly as it does in the graphic above.
