The Silver Lining

December 2015

Shelly Shares

Well, the holiday season is upon us, whether we are ready or not. Have you noticed how every year the decorations are up earlier and earlier? This year, I believe I saw some Christmas items going up around mid-October. Isn't this so similar to life? I remember when I was young, I couldn't wait until I was tall enough to reach the ice trays in the freezer. Now I wish I was young enough to take a daily nap.

Often we do this with our children, too. We can't wait until they can walk and talk. I felt this way about my first born, Zack. I couldn't wait for him to talk to me and by the time he was three, my mouth hurt at times from talking so much with him.

How many of us take the time to savor these moments? We say we can't wait for an event or a moment. Then, the moment comes and goes so quickly, that we are left feeling empty or maybe wishing we could do it all over again. Some moments come once in a lifetime and God allows those moments to impact our families' lives forever. What will you do with the moments you can't wait for? Will you make it a moment you will remember forever?

This Christmas season, I hope you take some time to talk with your children about the birth of Christ and discuss the real meaning of Christmas. Do something just with your children to start a memorable tradition. It doesn't have to be extravagant and you might just make a memory you and they will never forget!

In Christ,

"Search me O God, and know my heart." Psalm 139:23
