November 2015 Monthly Report

LMS Library Mission Statement

The mission of the LMS Library is to foster a learning community that encourages students to love reading and creates lifelong learners, who are effective and ethical users of information and resources.

What Happened in November...

  • We had 26 classes visit- Mr. Molina, Mr. Calhoun, Mrs. Lewis, and Mrs. Walker came in to check out books. Mrs. Bayne came in for library orientation and to check out books. Mrs. Richey's class came in for a lesson on nonfiction vs fiction. We read the Magic School Bus and watched a video on the digestive system. They all then checked out only nonfiction books for the week.
  • We had 923 books checked out, 20 books placed on hold, and 394 library visits outside of class time.
  • We had an AWESOME response to the Book Fair. The library sold right at $2,500 during the week of the Book Fair. Thanks to the great response from the faculty and students the library received close to $800 in Scholastic Dollars to purchase new books!! Things went so well we have decided we will have a Spring Book Fair February 8th through February 12th.

Owl Ways Reading Challenge

A big thank you to Communities in Schools for hosting the Owl Ways Reading Challenge. We had close to 60 students read over 300 minutes from November 1st to November 20th. They enjoyed popcorn and the movie "Holes" the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break. The students had a great time being rewarded for their time spent reading.

South Carolina Junior Book Awards

Our next reading incentive program is taking place. We have begun the SCJBA Book Awards Reading Program. All the students have to do is read 3 of the SCJBA nominees and post a summary about it. We have a few students who are well on their way to meeting their posts! Click here to check out the posts we have received already. The students who complete this reading incentive program before January 31st will receive an invitation to our "Voting Celebration" where we will have food, prizes, and certificates for those who qualify!! Please urge your students to be participating in this program! It will be a fun day for those who read three books and post about it.
