Symptoms
The most common symptoms are:
- Hyperactivity
- Being easily distracted
- Forgetfulness
- Blurting out
- Fidgeting
- Problems organizing
- Avoiding work or tasks that contain mental effort
- Interrupting
- Failing to pay close attention to school work and makes careless mistakes
Treatments
Standard treatments for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) are medication and counseling. The commonly prescribed medications are psychostimulants and strattera.
How does this condition arise?
- Heredity, ADHD tends to run in families
- Pregnant women who smoke have a higher risk of having a child with ADHD
- Exposure to lead
Target population
More boys tend to be diagnosed with ADHD. Most people are diagnosed when they are a child. 3 out of 5 children have ADHD.
How is it diagnosed?
The condition is diagnosed by a medical doctor or a counselor taking something like an interview of you.
Connections
In my family many people have ADHD and some of my friends do as well. I thought that it would be interesting to learn more about it so that I can understand and help out my friends and family more.

The Nervous System
ADHD affects the nervous system. When it is working normally your brain allows you to focus on one thing, if you have ADHD your brain is unable to do that which causes you to be unfocused. (see image above)
