September News!
La Porte Elementary
Greetings Leopard Families,
We hope that you will all join us Thursday, September 1st for our Open House and Title 1 meeting. Teachers will have a session from 5:30-6:00pm and the same information will be shared in a second session from 6:00-6:30pm. Please plan to attend one of the sessions to get to know your child's teacher and grade level expectations a little better. Working together, we will continue seeing GREAT things happening at La Porte Elementary.
Looking forward to continued greatness, Karen Lawley
Principal, LaPorte Elementary
Cafeteria Opens for Visitors 9/13/2022Please check the monthly newsletter for any dates on which the cafeteria will be closed to visitors to help maintain building security (ie: benchmark testing days, STAAR testing days, etc.). Due to end of the year activities, the last day for visitors in the LPE cafeteria will be on May 4, 2023. In the event that the student has left his/her lunch at home, lunches may be delivered by 10:00 a.m. to the front office. For grades PK-5: Parents desiring to dine with their students should follow the assigned day of the week designated for students with the last name beginning with: o Tuesday: A – I o Wednesday: J – R o Thursday: S – Z (A maximum of 3 guests will be allowed to dine with each student.) | Attendance We need your help! It is so important for all students to be here and on time every day. Yes, this is how we get some of our funding. And yes, it helps with our accountability rating. However, most importantly, it helps each child be more successful. Our teachers plan rigorous and sequenced lessons for each day. When a student misses even one of these lessons, it can cause them to fall behind and not get the most benefit from the instruction. Of course, we understand that emergencies arise and sometimes children get sick. Please, help your child get their best education by making sure they are here and on time every day possible. We our planning some great ways to celebrate when our campus, grade levels, classes, or even individual students meet attendance goals! | Dress Code Reminders

Ms. Horelka's Counselor's Corner
This is my 4th year as the counselor at LPE and I am so happy to be here. I thoroughly enjoy working with all our amazing students. I truly believe in the power of positive, trusting relationships and creating an environment where students feel safe and connected. I really do want you to reach out to me if you need assistance at all. My email is horelkad@lpisd.org and my phone number is (281) 604-4764. This year we have an exciting opportunity to TEAM with partners from the community. They will be providing mentors who will take time out each week to meet with students at lunch. If you feel like your student would benefit from this program, please contact me.
Each month we focus as a school and district on specific character traits. Our August character trait was Courage and our new one for September will be Respect. It does take courage to start each school year and, of course, respect is a huge part of building relationships and for everyone to be successful.
Additionally, we are very fortunate to be supported by the Houston Food Bank with our Backpack Buddy Program. They will provide a bag of food every Friday to students in need. Please reach out by phone or email and I can send you the paperwork to get started.
I look forward to a fantastic year!
