Teaching History Through Music
Music is such an integral part of Black History and has influenced music all over the world. This podcast discusses using music to teach students about hard moments in Black history.
Parent Survey
It is difficult to believe that almost one year ago schools across the state began to close for in-person instruction. The ongoing uncertainty and changes caused by COVID-19 have made for a "roller coaster ride" of a year. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we have worked to adjust and improve along the way! Hope seems to be on the horizon and we look forward to the day when the laughter and smiles of our students once again fills our campus.
Vista Oaks needs your help! We are busy planning for the 2021-2022 school year and want your thoughts and input. Please click the link below to complete the survey.
Your child's input matters, too! Students in grades 3 through 12 are encouraged to complete the survey, as well. If your child attends virtual classes or activities, they will have an opportunity to complete the survey during class. If they do not attend onsite activities, please invite them to complete the survey using the link below.
Click here to access the Schoolwide Input Survey.
Click here at access the Schoolwide Input Survey in SPANISH.
This survey will be open until Friday, March 5.
Thank you for your input!

CAASPP Update, Grades 3 - 8 and High School
Each spring students in California public schools participate in statewide tests as part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Last year, due to COVID-19 statewide tests were canceled after a waiver was signed by the Federal Department of Education.
This year, testing will resume, but it will look different. Below are some of the updates that have been made to the CAASPP:
Remote Testing - Most students will be able to take the CAASPP remotely as being administered by their Advisor or Case Manager.
Preparing Computers - Families can download the Secure Browser required for testing onto their computer. Instructions will be provided soon.
Adjustments to the Test - Parts of the English and Math test have been shortened for all grade levels.
Parent Resource Page - There is a parent resource page produced by the California testing system. Parents can access updates, video links and other resources. Click here to access the Parent Resource page.
Practice Test - To help prepare your child for testing please take a look at the practice CAASPP together. It is recommended to look at a lower grade level for the first time so students can feel comfortable with the interface. Please note the Smarter Balanced English and Math tests are only available in grades 3 - 12 for the practice test. Click here to access the Practice Test.
Vista Oaks will not begin testing until April. Your Advisor will share more information with you soon. For now, please know that we are working hard to provide the best testing experience for your child. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Together we can show how much we have grown!

We love when our students are able to share concerns with us directly, but having an anonymous option is really helpful for some! We have a safety line in place for this.
