Elementary Roof Replacement:

The ES roof has reached the end of its lifespan. Shingles are starting to show signs of deterioration as all of the sand wears off and exposes the fiberglass, and as the picture below indicates, shingles are starting to separate from the roof.

We need to replace the roof before we have problems with leaking. Leaking can lead to significant damage to the interior of the building and increase the likelihood of mold issues. We want to avoid this!

• Holly Haugen led a SPED/504 training for our certificated staff at our last early release. These are very complicated programs with ever-changing rules and regulations. Most importantly, however, is that if we are truly focused on learning and linking that learning to life, we are looking at how we meet the individual needs of each of our students. If we do that consistently, then many of the difficult issues surrounding these programs across our nation will take care of themselves.
  

• On Tuesday, I attended a WASA conference on legal issues surrounding human resources. I have been able to use what I learned in several situations this week, and I will be sharing what I learned with our entire administration team in the near future.
• A big shout out also goes to Debbi Jones from the Choice High School, with our “secret shopper”. I learned that she too was on point with recognizing and redirecting our “practice intruder” last week. Thanks for your great work!
  

• Our administration team is looking into how to accurately measure climate and culture throughout the organization. In the past, we have used the CEE survey but it is difficult to get staff, students, and parents to fill out the survey. Staff, if you have ideas on how to improve this process, let your administrator/supervisor know or send me an email.
  

• TEALS is the Computer Programmers who teach Janine McCormick’s Intro to Computer Science class every morning remotely from the Seattle area. They were on campus today and visited various classes which included the ES, MS, and HS.
  

• The school board held their board meeting on Wednesday at the Wauconda Hall and we had 5 community members attend. We discussed many topics but two of the most pressing issues they shared was the difficulty with transportation during the winter and the struggles with their children completing homework that require internet access.
  

• There is a series of free Love and Logic workshops offered through Family Health Centers. The dates for the parent workshops are October 22 & 29 and November 5, 12, 19, & 26. Located in the elementary school.

• Congratulations, Chelsea! Your recent application for a North Central Education Foundation Teacher Classroom Grant was selected for you to receive $300 for your "Leadership Mural Project" project.
  
• Congratulations, Gail! Your recent application for a North Central Education Foundation Teacher Classroom Grant was selected for you to receive $300 for your "Ukuleles for Tonasket Kids" project.
• A group of students had an early morning today. They came to the school to collect data on an asteroid over 4.5 billion miles away! They are part of the RECON citizen science project. Tonasket High School students, along with teams from Canada to Mexico, are collecting data on these obscure Kuiper Belt asteroids.
  

• We are currently advertising for two SPED paraeducator positions (one in-district, one out of district). Both are permanent positions. One was hired as a one year position at the beginning of the year but is being changed to a permanent position because of student need.
  

• We held a soft lockdown in the HS on Tuesday. It was in response to a student health issue where we needed to bring in an ambulance. We wanted to protect the student's privacy, thus the soft lockdown.
