SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH
This year as a school and district we will be closely monitoring staff and student attendance. We will be looking at absenteeism and tardies. Our goal is to ensure that every staff and student attend school regularly.
Here are a few statistics:
- Students who are likely to need additional support due to poor attendance are those who missed 10% of the previous school year as well as those who are headed off-track in the current year.
- If a student is just 10 minutes late to school each day, this adds up to missing more than 33 hours of class time.
- Teachers are considered chronically absent if they miss more than 10 days of school - or the equivalent of two weeks of classes-a year.
We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. The School Leadership Team has begun working on an Attendance Incentive Program that will promote attending school regularly and a comprehensive approach that includes outreach to families. We will be providing more details of the incentive program in the upcoming weeks.
We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to improve staff and student attendance!
SAFETY and SECURITY
Buckle Up Rock Hill!
I'd like to encourage all faculty, staff and parents to drive safely. We need you with us every day!
- Buckling up helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle (where your chances of surviving are many times greater).
- Air bags are not enough to protect you; in fact, the seat belt is designed to protect you from the force of an air bag opening, which can seriously injure you...
- Improperly wearing a seat belt, such as putting the strap below your arm, could put you or your children at risk in a crash.
- The benefits of buckling up are equally clear: of 37,133 people killed in crashes in 2017, 47% were not wearing seat belts. In that year alone, seat belts saved 14,955 lives.

LET ME RUN
Let Me Run is a nonprofit wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. With a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running, the program encourages boys to develop their psychological, emotional and social health, in addition to their physical health. Twice a week for seven weeks, two trained volunteer coaches lead an elementary or middle school team through practice. Designed to amplify confidence, self-expression, and respect for others, each practice includes a lesson from the Let Me Run curriculum that incorporates running, games and activities. Each fall and spring season culminates in a 5k race festival that celebrates the boys’ personal growth.
Registration at Mount Holly Elementary is now open for grades 4th and 5th! Fall season starts on September 24th, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays after school for an hour and fifteen minutes, and ends with a 5k race on November 9th. Watch this video to learn more and register at:

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR - September 23 - 30
Message from Mrs. Holder
Families can set up eWallets for their students so they don't need to send money to school and can order online to have books sent to their home or to family farther away. This is a great way for family and friends who want to participate but can't be in person. Also, we (the school) gets a much greater percentage of money back for online orders. They can start ordering today and we will earn scholastic dollars for the library!
Thanks for your support of our Book Fair and our school!
