SCW student named as National Merit Semifinalist

St. Charles West and the City of St. Charles School District would like to congratulate Mr. Abhiram Kudaravalli on being named a National Merit Semifinalist!

On September 14, 2022, officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of over 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

Way to go Abhi!

SCSD Oasis tutors back in action

Oasis Tutors were recently welcomed to the 25th year of Oasis Tutoring in the St. Charles School District. Our elementary schools welcome Oasis Tutors to connect with K-4 students who can use assistance with reading, writing, and oral communication. The tutors meet with the same student weekly throughout the school year and help struggling students develop language, build vocabulary, and expand background knowledge.

Not only do the students benefit but the tutors/older adults in the community have an improved sense of purpose and meaning. They enjoy the opportunity to pass along life lessons and generally are passionate about service and education.

Training is provided by local Oasis Tutoring facilitators. More information about becoming an Oasis tutor is available at www.oasisnet.org or by contacting the School District Office at 636.443.4000.

SCW Deca & FBLa Career Day

After the panel students enjoyed a college fair followed by a beautiful day game.

Blackhurst Back to School Bash

Blackhurst Elementary had their PTO back to school bash. We had special guests from St. Charles Fire Department grilling hotdogs, giving tours of the ambulance/fire trucks and providing some games. We also had Raising Cane's providing some great drinks and giveaways. Students and families had the opportunity to play games, enjoy bounce houses, great food and earn a brag tag for their collection.

Thanks to their partnership with Craftsman, the Bobcats were able to get motivated to meet their reading goals by throwing and kicking footballs with Bobby the Bobcat and the wonderful staff at Craftsman. Students were able to take home a mini football and preview the themed shirts that they can earn. Students are expected to read for 120 minutes each week to meet the building goal of 800,000 minutes!

Null Leaders teach recess expectations

Null 4th-grade leaders stepped up to the plate last week and taught the school recess expectations. The student leaders worked together in small groups to create presentations to teach students recess expectations. They taught each classroom the correct way to line up, play on the playground, play with equipment and play kickball. The 4th-grade student leaders used visual aids and student participation to teach each class. All students got a kick out of the presentation and learned how you are never too young to be a leader.
