Open House April 2nd. Spread the Word!

This Saturday, April 2 is our big spring Open House from 10:00-1:00. Families and friends of the school can help promote the event by sharing our social media posts. Like, comment, and share! Help spread the word!

The Admissions Team will be hosting another interactive Open House like our event in October, which will be an abbreviated school day complete with lunch and sample classes taught by Ally and Christine.

We are looking for between 4-6 current students to participate in this event. Students will act as tour guides, participate in the sample classes, and be hosts for prospective families during lunch. If you are interested in showcasing how awesome TNS is, please let Scott know by Friday. Students should plan to arrive at TNS no later than 9:45 on Saturday and expect to be at school until 1:30 to assist with clean-up. Active participation in classes and the Morning Meeting are critical for the success of this event.

Pizza Fundraiser for MEMUNC

The Model United Nations class will be selling woodfired pizza at the April All School Meeting to raise money for their conference fees. Attending the conference costs $210 per delegate, and delegates are expected to raise half of that money through fundraising and personal contributions.

Click here to fill out a pizza order form prior to Friday, April 1. Support our students and get dinner next Monday before the meeting!

Model UN is an experiential learning activity for students with an interest in international issues. Students will be assigned to a country and committee of the UN and assume the role of ambassador, representing that nation/organization, to solve two major issues on the committee's agenda through negotiations with other delegates. Through preparation, debate, and resolution writing, students learned more about the world while developing a variety of useful skills including the use of parliamentary procedure, research, public speaking and negotiation techniques.

The ultimate goal of the conference is the creation of one or more resolutions that express practical and creative action to solve the problem. This will require students to work collaboratively to find common ideas and perspectives with other nations and think critically about proposed solutions.

This year's conference will be held at the Gorham campus of USM May 11-13.

Community Service with Interact

Chloe and Scott attended the Rotary Club’s Interact meeting on Tuesday to learn about community service opportunities for TNS.

This club has historically been for Kennebunk High School students, but they recently invited The New School’s students to join them because of our positive reputation for community service.

Some of the volunteer opportunities include helping out at Habitat for Humanity's Kennebunk ReStore on the last Saturday of the month, trail cleanup, and domestic or international volunteer work once it’s safe to travel again.

Now that we’re plugged in, we can attend the Interact meetings every other Tuesday at Duffy’s from 6p-7:30p. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday April 5th.

Questions? Email Scott.

Call for Agenda Items

Our next All School Meeting is Monday, April 4 at 6:00 at The New School.

We welcome input from all members of our community and are seeking agenda items for the April Meeting. When submitting an agenda item, please include a brief description of the topic and an estimate of the amount of time you would like to devote to it. Agenda items should be submitted on Fridays before an ASM. Send your Agenda Items to either Christine or Scott.

Teacher Planning Day

This is just a reminder that this Wednesday, March 30 is a Teachers' Day. Students are expected to work on school assignments at home, and will not be required to come to school Wednesday.

This week teachers will be reviewing our assessment philosophy and working to align it with the new data base that is being built in the office for next year. Additionally, teachers will be doing some granular planning for end of the year events like graduation and LEAP and will also begin looking ahead to next year's calendar.

Fish Tanks Wanted

Alex Morin and Bear Landenberger are learning about aquaculture and need your help. They currently have two large fish tanks up and running in the science room, but are looking for more tanks, so they can grow aquatic plants for their aquascapes. If you have a tank lying around in the basement or attic you would like to rehome, please drop it off at the school.

Great turnout at game night!

We had about a dozen students, siblings, and friends in attendance to get their game on.

Special thanks to Jacqueline, Laurie, and Stu for chaperoning, and extra special thanks to EVERYONE for cleaning up at the end of the night.

Our next Final Friday Game Night will be on April 29th.
