CORE Parent Survey
Long Beach Unified is conducting a brief survey of all parents and guardians in our district. The purpose of the survey is to get your opinion on the effectiveness of your child’s school. If you currently have a ParentVue account you received an email from Panorama Education on with a link to complete the survey. You may use a smartphone, tablet or computer to complete the online survey. Your experiences and opinions are very important to us – the information gathered by the survey will contribute to the continuous improvement plan for Avalon School. The survey window is only open for a limited time, so please complete it at your earliest convenience. Thank you in advance for your participation.
ParentVUE
ParentVUE is a website that allows parents to view their child’s current and historical information, including daily attendance, grades, report cards, test scores, discipline, graduation status, college preparation, and more. It is also a one-stop location for links to other parent services including School Loop and MySchoolBucks (school meal accounts).
With one simple activation, parents can view information on all of their children, from elementary school to high school. Parents can also update emergency card information electronically, submit School of Choice applications, and request Summer School.
If you have not already signed up for ParentVue, please see Katalina Vargas in the Counselor's Office to get your Activation Key.

Chromebooks for Every Student!
All elementary students, K-5, have access to Chromebooks in their classroom. Each student has been assigned a specific chromebook from a class Chromebook cart to be used during the school day. As part of guided lessons or during independent work students can access skill building programs such as ST Math (a.k. gigi) and Lexia.
On Monday, January 14 Avalon School rolled out a 1:1 Chromebook program for all students in Grades 6-12. The goal of the program is to ensure every middle and high school student has access to technology in every class, every day. Access to technology is essential to your student's academic success. The ability to integrade technology into instruction enhances the learning process by allowing deeper exploration of topics and exposure to programs and skills necessary for both college and career.

Avalon Rotary Provides Grant Funding for Projects at Avalon School.
Thanks to the Avalon Rotary and the Vons Foundation, Avalon School's Hospitality and Tourism program has received a grant for $5,500 to directly help stock and re-vamp the old home-ec room. With these funds we will be able to have a working kitchen with 4 working stations, fully stocked. The kitchen improvements will allow for lessons on kitchen cleanliness and safety, proper food storage, basic culinary skills, and other skills that are necessary not only for the hospitality industry, but also in daily life.
The Avalon Rotary has also been awarded a grant from Southern California Edison to provide and install a water bottle filling station on our campus. The filling station will be similar to the one at Joe Machado Field, and will allow students to fill re-usable water bottles during the day. The fixture will also include a drinking fountain for those who do bring a bottle.
