Parents and Friends,
"Family is not an important thing. It's everything."--Michael J. Fox
This was a hard week for our GES family, and I truly appreciate your comments, support, questions, and concerns, and I promise that we are using this information to make improvements in our response communications. I LOVE our Grace family, and I love how passionate, loving, close-knit, and caring we are about our church, school, and one another. These qualities were never more evident than lived out this week by your children who "showed up" for our first annual Great Kindness Challenge. They were true stewards in the engaging ways in which they used their words and actions to live out the mission of the Great Kindness Challenge by proactively and positively spreading kindness to those around them.
In Chapel, Religion and throughout the day all the week, we have been encouraging simple acts of kindness. We have had a kindness quote of the day and optional class activities for teachers to use. At lunch, we operated Kindness Stations with activities such as making Valentines, writing letters to those who need a lift, or coloring kindness hearts to give to a friend. The students also created a Kindness Chain that included their hopes, quotes, and drawings for a kinder world. Of course, the point has been that kindness is not just for this week, but for every day, and this week was a wonderful way to continue the children's understanding and awareness of creating a culture of kindness.
Thank you to Gretchen Pettis for discovering the program and for initiating our participation. This fall, Ms. Gretchen wrote and received a mini-grant from the Jr. League of Monroe to help with the funding of this great project, and what a success it was! These efforts helped organize and energize our entire school for this very worthy week of awareness.
Have a good weekend,
