Notes and Updates
Dear Parents,
It has been a busy week in 1G!
This week in math, students surprised me with how well they know their doubles facts! After one day of practice, we were able to move right on to Doubles +1. We also started working with subtraction and counting back.
In reading, we continuing to work choosing just right books during book shopping and learning how to work with our reading partner by reading various ways and using accountable talk. This week, we also worked on using 3 important word attack skills: Get your mouth ready for the first sound, look at the picture and think about what would make sense. Looking at the picture is a great strategy for our young readers. It helps them to think about the story and remember - reading is meaning!
In writing, students practiced adding text to their illustrations in the form of labels, speech or thought bubbles, and how color can help convey meaning to their story. We also worked on when to use a capital letter.
In social studies, we continue to learn about the ASD values of respect, responsibility, honesty and compassion and how we can apply the values in our classroom and beyond.
Scroll down to read about what we will be learning next week and important dates and information for next week.
Cheers,
Shannon Keane
