Notes and Updates
It has been a busy week in 1G!
This week in math, students surprised me with how well they know their doubles facts! After one day of practice, we were able to move right on to Doubles +1. We also started working with subtraction and counting back.
In reading, we continuing to work choosing just right books during book shopping and learning how to work with our reading partner by reading various ways and using accountable talk. This week, we also worked on using 3 important word attack skills: Get your mouth ready for the first sound, look at the picture and think about what would make sense. Looking at the picture is a great strategy for our young readers. It helps them to think about the story and remember - reading is meaning!
In writing, students practiced adding text to their illustrations in the form of labels, speech or thought bubbles, and how color can help convey meaning to their story. We also worked on when to use a capital letter.
In social studies, we continue to learn about the ASD values of respect, responsibility, honesty and compassion and how we can apply the values in our classroom and beyond.
Scroll down to read about what we will be learning next week and important dates and information for next week.

This is a cash ONLY event that everyone really enjoys and is a great opportunity to do some Halloween shopping. Items include fun gadgets, yummy treats, pumpkins and decorations.
I want to make sure that everyone is clear on homework and the difference between book bags and home folders. Maybe this will help:
Return Green Pouch and Green Folder to School. Homework packet will be in Green Pouch. Please remove it and KEEP AT HOME.
Blue Book Pouch goes home with Just Right Books – RETURN TO SCHOOL next day.
Monday and Tuesday
Read from Blue Book Pouch – RETURN TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY.
Wednesday - students read library books. Blue Book Pouch stays at school.
Return homework packet to school in Green Pouch. Read from Raz-Kids or read books from home.
Green Home Folder comes home with work and important notes.
If you have any questions or concerns about this routine, don't hesitate to e-mail me!
Students will have logins for several of the websites that we use for homework. You will find their login information for Raz-Kids, IXL Math and NVS e-mail account information on the front of their green home folder and on a card in their blue book bag.
Changes in Dismissal Routines
I know that at times plans change for transportation at the end of the day. Please make sure you e-mail Krista Wilson (firstname.lastname@example.org) and copy me with any dismissal changes. I wouldn't want to miss a note if I happen to be absent or away from the computer. Thank you!
