October 2015
First Quarter ends and there is a lot to celebrate!
International Global Awareness Club
International Global Awareness club will be selling “People Pledge” certificates before school and during lunch for $1 from Oct 20-30 to benefit UNICEF and the refuges (specifically children) leaving Syria and relocating in various countries in Europe.
Spanish Club
Spanish Club meets every other Monday after school in room 227. Each week we are experiencing cultural presentations and learning about a different country. So far we have learned about Spain and Mexico. Come join us! Olé!
Mr. Brian Santos is a super star!
Mr. Santos recently was named Distinguished Foreign Language Educator by the Foreign Language Association of Missouri (FLAM). This award was based on a teaching portfolio and colleague recommendations. Mr. Santos will be formally recoginized for his award next month’s FLAM conference at the Marriott in Kansas City.
World Language Club Celebrates Oktoberfest!
Oktoberfest is planned for October 22 from 6-8pm in the commons!
All students are welcome to join us for a fun-filled evening. World Language club members must pay$2 and non-club members pay $3. We will have music, food and dancing as well as group activities. Come hang out with friends and make some new ones!
Barnwell Classes making connections!
Costa Rica Adventures!
A small number of Mr. Santos’s Spanish 3 and 4 students went with him to Costa Rica this past summer. In Costa Rica, they got to experience Tico culture and speak to native Costa Ricans. Furthermore, they got to zipline across the rainforest, hike a waterfall, and go scuba diving. It was an adventure of a lifetime!
