News & Updates - March 2017
Dear Families,
In my family, International Women's Day (simply called "osmi mart" or 8th of March) has always been celebrated as a time to reach out to the women in our lives - sisters, mothers, aunts, grandmothers, friends - to show them we care about and are thinking of them. I will be making quite a few calls today! As you celebrate in your own way, also know that in the library, we have a great collection of picture books and biographies about women in history - and they are flying off the shelves! I have included below some new additions to our collection as well as a comprehensive list to browse. Below you'll also find news about our North Carolina Children's Book Award program and updates about our new library catalog.
Happy reading,
Natalie

Voting for books
This week, we concluded our reading of and voting for the nominees for the North Carolina Children's Book Award! Each class read the ten nominees to their students throughout the year, culminating with a chance for students to exercise their civic duty of voting for their favorite nominee. The award is a reader's choice award exclusive to students - no adult votes here! Watch the video below for highlights around school.

Search for books
Our new library catalog at cfsnc.follettdestiny.com has been live for over a month now. Students are searching much more easily in the library, but you can also search at home! The visual search highlighted below allows for searching throughout the different sections of our library. The Resource Lists under the Library Search in the left toolbar link you to the many lists of books I have been curating recently, including the Women in History list linked above. Browse freely and often to help your children find books to bring home!
P.S. Families can check out, too! See Natalie for details on how YOU can check out books from our library.
What do I have checked out?
Students can now scan their library cards and see a list of the books they have checked out. While we work out the logistics of emailing overdue notices with our new system, feel free to contact Natalie if you would like a list of your child's overdue books.
