Winter Break
Well, we made it! The first semester has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. Every student, parent, and staff member has had an experience that is unique to them. Although each of us has our own perspective, reflections, and feelings about our first semester of learning, I hope there is common ground in the area that we were and are all in it together. I’ve certainly felt that. I want to express my gratitude to our parents, as you’ve had to make decisions about your child’s mode of learning based on numerous variables, and I know that it isn’t easy. I want to thank our staff, who has pushed vulnerability aside to work tirelessly to meet the unique needs of our students and families. And I can’t forget our students, who are learning life skills that weren’t asked of us when we were in school. Our students’ flexibility, adaptability, and resilience continues to be a source of inspiration to me.
January 5th will bring a return to in-person and remote instruction. For our in-person learners, it has been six weeks of calendar time since they were last in the building. Our staff will intentional work with our students to reteach expectations, all while continuously promoting a sense of belonging, acknowledgment, and connection. Our fully remote learners will continue learning and growing with their teachers without missing a beat.
As a reminder, the school day is 8:00-1:40 for both learning models.
Returning for 2nd Semester
Upon our return to in-person learning on January 5th, it is important to remember all health and safety guidelines are still in effect. Students are still required to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing. Students will still enter and exit the same doors that were established during the first semester. Finally, all parents will be expected to continue completing the COVID-19 pre-certification form to ensure students are symptoms free before sending them to school each day.
As stated in last week’s principal message, mask breaks are an integral part of a successful day of learning. Please support your child in coming to school with appropriate winter attire, so mask breaks can continue to be a part of your child’s school day.
i-Ready
Students have completed their winter i-Ready diagnostic. We will mail paper copies of diagnostic reports before/during Winter Break, but if you would like to access your child's i-Ready diagnostic information in the student portal, as well as view additional family resources, please watch the video below.
Meal Distribution
Throughout our adaptive pause on in-person instruction, and meals will be distributed to D303 families. Breakfast and lunch meals are FREE for all children between the ages of 1 to 18. There is no pre-ordering. Meals are available at Cumberland Green from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM and at Munhall from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM on the following dates: 12/21, 12/28, and 1/4.
