Friday Focus
August 16, 2019
From Mrs. Barry:
In this week's Friday Focus, I'm hoping to answer some of the questions that have come up this week. If you have any other questions, concerns, or kudos, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for entrusting us with your children!
Welcome home to Meadow Wood!
What does my child do when he/she gets to school?
Students not eating or finished with breakfast participate in "Active Start." Each grade level has a plan for students to engage in activities designed to allow them to get ready for learning. The grade levels differ in the activities available, and we will be sending descriptions of each home soon.
Another option for students is Library time. Each day, a specific grade level is allowed to come to the library for reading, makerspace, computer time, and more. The grade level schedule is:
- Monday - 1st grade
- Tuesday - 2nd grade
- Wednesday - 3rd grade
- Thursday - 4th grade
- Friday - 5th grade
Later in the year, students will also have the opportunity to participate in special groups such as Meadow Wood Milers, SWAG team, Choir, and more.
Our goal is that the time before formal instruction begins is still purposeful and productive.
REMINDER - Don't park in handicapped parking spaces without a tag! We have students that need these spots!
Walkers and Car Riders and Busses...OH MY!!!
Arrival
- Students should not arrive before 7:30 a.m.
- If dropping off your student, please remember to pull all the way up to the last column at parent drive off Memorial. Students should exit from the passenger side only.
- For safety reasons, students should NOT be dropped off in the parking lots or on the street.
Dismissal
- If picking up your child by car, please use the Car Rider pick up line at the front of the school.
- For safety reasons, students should NOT be asked to cross the parking lot or street to get to a parent's car.
- If meeting your child to walk home, please stand back away from the doors to allow our teachers to ensure your child gets to you safely.
More details regarding arrival and dismissal are in the MWE Student/Parent Handbook. Thank you for your patience as we work through these procedures. Again, keeping your children safe is our #1 priority!!!
Why do I get so many REMIND notices?
Therefore, we have instituted the "grade level" groups. A positive with this is that you should only have to sign up one year - we will continue the groups from year to year. Also, this one grade level group will give you both school and grade-specific information.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we've tried to find an economical and effective solution for our communication needs!
Summer Reading BINGO
Summer Reading BINGO cards are due August 30th. Students who complete their BINGO card and return to Mrs. McCracken will celebrate with a Popsicle party! Awesome job to all the students who already turned their cards in!!
Specials Schedule
The students are assigned to a "color" group. Based on the day of the rotation (1, 2, 3, 4), they learn what specials to attend. These schedules are sent home monthly.
Please remember that your child should wear tennis shoes for health fitness. It's also a good idea to wear tennis shoes on the playground. If you have any questions regarding the rotation schedule, please reach out to Coach Hollmann.
When can I come and eat lunch with my child?
If you have any questions or concerns, contact Mrs. Barry.

The Meadow Wood Garden is in a beautiful courtyard on the West side of the campus. Classes plant and grow various plants throughout the year. PTA Parents volunteer and help to maintain this space.

The idea is to keep the garden maintained, looking great and ever ready for the Hands On Science helpers (i.e. our kids!).
