ALA Websites great for kids
http://gws.ala.org/ includes websites for children up to age 14. Suggested sites are evaluated by a committee from the American Library Association and can be searched by using the orange topic tabs at the top of the page.
New sites are added to the database three times a year. The committee also reviews all sites within the database twice a year to guarantee sites are still relevant, appropriate and accessible.
Kids.gov: A Safe Place to Learn and Play
This site offers great resources on a variety of topics and age levels. The main page has links to subjects such as art, fitness/nutrition, online safety, music, and the 4 core subjects. There is a kid friendly explanation of government topics with diagrams and easy to read text. (i.e. 3 branches of the govt., how laws are made, the American presidency) and great info on the USA by states.
