Principal's Notes and Highlights
Happy Friday!
We survived ISTEP. Thank you for supporting our teachers by having your children ready to do their best and helping them participate in theme days. We brought out the prize wheel and have tried to make the experience as pleasant as possible.
- We will celebrate Star Wars Day on Friday, May 4th. We hope students will be dressed in their best Star Wars gear. May the force be with you...
- There will be a CSA Lincoln Art Show on May 15th from 5-7 pm. All students will have at least one piece of art in the show. See the below section regarding more details of the event.
- The CIC met and discussed a change that we are making to our lunch policy regarding parents and visitors. You are still invited to come and use the CSA Cafe (located outside the library) to eat with your student. We no longer will allow other students to join the group unless their parent has called the office and approved it. We know that your student sometimes wants to bring a friend to eat with them. That is still fine, but it will need to take place in the cafeteria at a vacant table so we can maintain school supervision. This change isn't happening because of anything bad that has occurred, rather it was a topic that came up as we continue to review our school safety procedures. Again, we still want you to come eat with your student at lunch. You can still use the CSA Cafe outside the library. If you want another student to come with you, the parent of the other student will need to call the office to approve it. Otherwise, you can sit with the group in the cafeteria so we can maintain adult supervision. Thank you for your understanding!
- Second Grade shares why they love CSA Lincoln in a video produced by students. I've included it below.
- Several classes traveled to the BCPL this week for the Smart Money Program. Student feedback was very positive about the experience.
- 6th Grade has been busy working on their Medieval Fair presentations (photos below).
- Fourth Grade is also getting close to wrapping up their Famous Hoosiers Project. Details about both presentations and when you can come visit will be coming home next week.
- The Columbus Rotary Club gave each student in kindergarten a "Like Me" book that is personalized. They do it every year. Miss Deyerling shared that she still had her book from when she was in kindergarten. We sincerely appreciate having wonderful community support. These are headed home today.
We (my family) survived our trip in California. I use the word survive because on the flight from San Diego to Houston Calvin got sick all over himself, the seat, and me. Thankfully, Michelle had packed a second set of clothes for him and he was fine after that. I'm fairly certain it was due to the air pressure. It still made for a very eventful landing. FYI- Airlines do have a kit they will give you to help with cleanup. The seatbelt couldn't be saved, but we sure tried our best!
I've shared a video of Calvin dancing at the wedding. He sure loves to dance!
Have a great weekend!

If you have a relative, neighbor, friend, etc. who has an artistic skill that they would like to share with our students, please have them email Mrs. Blackerby at morrowme@bcsc.k12.in.us.

Don't be afraid, it's just an email...
As we come to the end of the 2017-2018 school year, there are many times and ways that we need parent volunteers to help out with school events. We do send some of these requests via FB posts and this newsletter, but a good majority of the time the requests go out by email to those who have requested to be on the PTO email list. PTO email is a great NO PRESSURE way to learn about these opportunities and jump in where you can, if you can, in whatever capacity you can. If you don't have the time or resources to participate in one opportunity simply DELETE the email and maybe the next opportunity will be one you can get involved with. We LOVE our parent volunteers and couldn't pull off all of the fun stuff we do without you so if you aren't currently on the PTO email list but would like to change that, send us your request to be added to ptocsalincoln@gmail.com!
From the School Counselor's Desk- Attendance
We would like to remind you the importance of being present at school every day. BCSC has a goal of 98% attendance for all students. At CSA Lincoln we are making an effort to succeed in achieving this goal.
Letters have been sent out in the last couple of months to students with attendance concerns.
To help your child keep a good attendance record, we are asking you to contact the school every time a child is going to be absent and provide doctor’s notes when applicable.
If you have any concerns or questions please contact Mrs. Thompson, our school counselor at thompsona@bcsc.k12.in.us or 812-376-4447.
For more information on attendance you can check page 06 of our student handbook available on the following link. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_FhiFWQmV-1Q2tWUFczaW4tV3c/view

CYD Family Engagement Survey
The Council for Youth Development Family Engagement Workgroup has developed the CYD Family Engagement Survey to collect the input of as many Bartholomew County residents currently raising our youth. CYD's goal is to collect this valuable feedback and use this information to better plan their future work in expanding Developmental Assets outreach to Bartholomew County families.
