News and Notes from Estabrook School | May 11, 2017

Dear Estabrook Families,

As of this writing, more than 300 of our families have shared their feedback on homework at Estabrook School. THANK YOU! Your voice is so important as we evaluate our shift to a homework plan focusing on independent and shared reading at home.

The survey window is open until tomorrow at midnight. If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Don't miss your opportunity to share your thoughts on our homework plan. This feedback, along with survey results from our faculty, staff and students, parent focus groups, and academic data will help us examine the plan.

Estabrook welcomes new staff to our team

Our school social worker, Krystal Velazquez began her maternity leave ahead of schedule, and will be out through the birth of her baby this summer. Ms. Velazquez plans to continue her leave after the birth of her baby, and will return to Estabrook in December. Please join us in wishing Ms. Velazquez and her family well during this exciting time!

Estabrook is pleased to welcome MIMI BIX-HYLAN as our social worker long-term substitute. Ms. Bix-Hylan is a licensed clinical social worker, and comes to Lexington with years of experience as a counselor and social worker in educational and health care settings, both locally and across the country. Most recently, Ms. Bix-Hylan has worked as a social worker in Danvers and in the Salem Public Schools. We are delighted to welcome Ms. Bix-Hylan to our team.

Estabrook is also pleased to welcome CLAUDIA MCCARTHY to our team. Ms. McCarthy will serve as an instructional assistant throughout the building now through the end of the school year. Ms. McCarthy takes the place of Anna Sternfeld, who is serving at Heather Gordon's long term substitute in grade 2, as Mrs. Gordon and her family await the birth of her second child. Ms. McCarthy is a retired general and special education teacher, with years of experience at the elementary and middle school levels. In recent years, Ms. McCarthy has served as a per-diem and long term substitute teacher across Lexington. Please join us in welcoming Ms. McCarthy!

Email System Update

Effective July 1, all Lexington Public School employees will move to a new email system, with a new address. The much simpler format will be [first initial and last name] Some staff have already made the switch, and you may receive emails from these new addresses.
