School-level COVID Protocols
If you suspect that you or your child may have COVID, please keep them home until you get the results or symptoms subside. Your child will be able to make up any work they have missed when they return. Again, the absences your student accumulates will not be counted against them. Please help us slow the spread. Thank you in advance for your understanding and attention to this matter.
Digital Support Staff
We are beginning supports for our students with extended absences due to COVID. We have two Digital Support team members who will provide assistance to your child with their school work.
Ms. Amy Beasley will be the Digital Support Staff Member for students in Grades K-2. Ms. Beasley will be online at the following times, Mondays from 3-4:30; Thursdays from 3-4:30; and Fridays from 3-4. Here is the link to the virtual support she will be providing for students in grades K-2.
Ms. Kim Carroll will be the Digital Support Staff Member for students in Grades 3-5. Ms. Carroll will be online at the following times, Tuesdays from 3-4:30 and Wednesdays from 3-4:30. Please email Mrs. Carroll at kim.carroll@dcssga.org if your child is in 3rd-5th grades and needs support.
Birthdays
As a reminder, we do not allow whole birthday cakes or any birthday treats that are individually wrapped.
We enjoy honoring our students on their birthday. We announce the birthday child’s name on the morning announcements and allow families to bring in treats within the guidelines below.
Cupcakes/snacks must be store bought AND prepackaged/individually wrapped.
Also, you may want to think about non-food items. The items listed below will still make your child feel special and they will last a lot longer than a food item.
- A game for the classroom
- A classroom book (A nice touch would be having your child pick it out, sign it, and date it.)
- A classroom set of items for each child to keep such as pencils, pens, erasers, markers, etc.

Factory Shoals Elementary School National Jr. Beta Club
Factory Shoals Elementary School is a chapter member in the National Junior Beta Club. The purpose of the Junior Beta Club is to encourage effort, reward merit, and to promote those qualities of character that make for good citizenship. The Junior Beta Club is a student-centered organization, continually develops and nurtures individuals by providing opportunities and experiences enabling them to demonstrate the ideals of character, achievement, service and leadership in a global community.
To be selected for the Junior Beta Club, fourth and fifth grade students must have all A's and B's (on or above grade level) on his/her report card, and have no "Needs Improvement" in conduct, and have good attendance. The chapter elects a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Meetings are scheduled monthly and they are held during lunch. To remain in the club, students must attend regular meetings, maintain a minimum of a "B" average, participate in service projects, and exhibit appropriate classroom behavior.
Students who meet the requirements and are interested in applying must see Mrs. Frett, one of our Junior Beta Club sponsors for an application. The application is due no later than by September 15, 2021. Please be mindful that completing this form does not guarantee acceptance into Jr. Beta Club. Having all A’s & B’s, a positive teacher recommendation, good school attendance, and an exceptional discipline record are the critical requirements for membership.
Title I Parent Advisory Council Meeting & Parent Resource Center
The Parent Resource Room will be open starting September 7, 2021. If you wish to visit, please make an appointment via email to either Mrs. Frett or Ms. Summers.
Car Rider Lane Guidelines
- Car riders may only be dropped off and picked up within the designated car rider zone.
- Morning student drop-off begins at 7:00 AM. Afternoon dismissal of car riders begins at 2:25 PM.
- Have your child gather their belongings prior to getting to the front of the car rider lane.
- Have your child put their mask on before getting out of the car.
- All drivers should remain in cars.
- Remember to unlock your doors.
- Students MUST wait until FSES School Staff opens the car door in order to proceed from vehicles. This is for the safety of all students.
- If possible, all students should be loaded and unloaded through passenger side doors- Curb Side.
- Passing is not permitted in Car Rider Line. Like school bus loading and unloading zones, violators will have license plates turned over to the DCSS Police Department.
If you or the person who is picking up your child in the afternoon does not have the blue Car Rider Identification card, they will have to pick up the child from the front office and have their ID available for our front office staff to check. This is for the safety of your child. Thank you for your understanding.
We thank you in advance for adhering to our rules as they all help keep your students safe around moving vehicles.

Here Comes the Bus is available for parents and students to download now. To sign up, visit the Apple or Android store, or visit www.herecomesthebus.com.
Students are still encouraged to arrive at their stop five minutes early and to follow any additional instructions given by drivers. Parents are also asked to be at the bus stop in the afternoons to receive their child from the bus. If students are habitually brought back to the school as a result of an adult not being present, then the student will have to enroll in our fee-based After School Program.
