Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
Our halls were filled with quiet signs this week for the MSTEP state testing for our 3rd and 5th-grade students. Next week our 4th graders will test and the 5th grade will be finishing their fourth and final state test. Our students worked hard at completing these assessments and we are proud of their efforts.
Next week is our BIG WALK-A-THON week when our students hit the track to walk. Although it will look different this year with only one class at a time on the track and no families in attendance, we will plan to share out on our PTSO Fb so please be sure to check it out next week!
Next week is also National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week! We will be celebrating our staff with some extra treats throughout the week. If you are so inclined to show your child's teacher some LOVE-- I know the sentiment of a card or positive email goes a long way in the heart of a teacher. THANK YOU!
Please take some time to educate yourself about the important election for schools that takes place next Tuesday, May 4th. Information about the millage renewal is provided below.
Please note, we do not take teacher requests by name, but we do have a Student Learning Placement Form that allows you to share out important information about your child we should take into account as we work to create balanced classrooms for the next school year. Next Friday, May 7th the Student Learning Placement Forms are due to your child's teacher.
Next Friday is a half-day for students as teachers will be working on important district curriculum work in the afternoon. Dismissal is at 12:15 and we will be serving lunch.
Gaiters and masks:
I have recently shared the mask-wearing fatigue our students have been demonstrating. It has also been evident that the gaiters can be a struggle for students to keep up at times. Please talk with your child about trying their best to keep them up while in school. If you are in need of lighter-weight disposable masks, we do have plenty to distribute out for those in need.
We do appreciate all of you helping us control the spread by keeping your child home from school if they are experiencing COVID symptoms or you feel they may have been exposed to COVID-19. We ask that you contact your child's pediatrician when you are unsure of a situation.
PLEASE be sure to ALWAYS contact our office if your child is going to be absent from school so we can track reasons for absences and any possible cases.
Also, we continue to ask if there is anyone in the household who is being tested for COVID-19 to keep your child home until the test results come back. Also, please be sure to go through the student screener questions (see below) each day before you send your child(ren) to school.
As always we continue to encourage all of our families to try and keep safety precautions in mind. Every measure counts and together we can try and minimize the negative impact COVID-19 could have on your child's education.
Please visit this link at State of Michigan Covid for up-to-date information.
Together we can work to minimize exposure for our students and staff. Thank you!
Thank you Sunset Lake Families!
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw
