Meet the OASISS Staff
Brenda Martinez
Brenda Martinez is the new Program Coordinator for OASISS. She was born and raised in Modesto, CA while her parents were born and raised in the State of Mexico. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in human resources and organizational behavior from Sacramento State University and received her Master’s degree at the University of San Francisco in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program. She is passionate about enhancing educational equity and is an aspiring social justice ally. Brenda enjoys spending time with her dog (Ko-ga) and exploring the Bay Area. Selena Villa
Selena Villa is the new Student Assistant for OASISS. She was born and raised in San Jose, CA. She is currently a student at Evergreen Valley College and studying to complete her Associate In Arts In Psychology For Transfer. She is a young mother who is focused on her future goals which led her to pursue her education & is determined to achieve them so she can give her daughter a bright future. After completing her AA-T in Psychology she plans on continuing her education and attending a state university to further her goals. Her hobbies include going out with her daughter to enjoy nature, drawing & working out. She also has an interest in makeup in which she plans on pursuing after she completes her education.
This is our OASISS counselor and his name is Alejandro (Alex) Torres and he will work in the OASISS office on Mondays and Wednesdays. He is approachable and relatable, making him a great fit for OASISS. You can visit him in SC 214 and make an appointment by stopping by or e-mail us on evc.oasiss@evc.edu.

My name is Alejandro Jesus Ramos Torres II . I am originally from Lima, Peru. My family and I flew to Mexico City when I was 7 years old. From there we traveled to Tijuana and spent some time before making our way to San Jose, CA.
I am a first generation college student. I graduated from West Valley College with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts. I transferred to San Jose State University and received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish. I continued my education and received a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling from San Jose State University.
I have worked in education for the last 14 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with students and root for their success.

IMMIGRANT RIGHTS ORGANIZER INTERNSHIP: LOCATIONS - SAN JOSE & CENTRAL VALLEY PAID FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
INTERNSHIP: SIREN is offering Immigrant Rights Organizer Internship within its Community Organizing Program. SIREN will provide the Immigrant Rights Organizer Intern an opportunity to acquire grassroots community organizing and issue organizing skills while directly impacting policies for immigrants. The Intern will be equipped with organizing skills they can apply to their future job or bring back to their community for change.
The Immigrant Rights Organizer Internship is an 8 week commitment for a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Entrepreneurship Fund
Immigrants Rising’s Entrepreneurship Fund provides grants to undocumented entrepreneurs working to create positive social change.
The Fund showcases the talents of undocumented young people and amplifies the positive impact of their work. In 2018, They will award $250,000 in funding through $5,000 to $50,000 one-year grants. Grantees will also be offered support and guidance from professional advisors as well as opportunities to network with other undocumented entrepreneurs.
Applicants must be born outside of the United States and cannot be U.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR). Applicants do not need to be eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to qualify.
Preliminary applications are due October 4, 2018.
