A Message from the Principal
Our first week ushering in our youngest learners to the building went unbelievably well! We feel so lucky to have all of them here!
As you saw today, we did go into a soft lockdown. This is when we maintain uninterrupted indoor activities; students can move freely around the building. The difference is we do not allow anyone into or out of the building. Because it was business as usual, the students did not know that we went into lockdown. The staff and students were wonderful. It was truly out of an abundance of caution, but we appreciate all your support as we navigated it. I communicated with staff through email and check-ins and made a couple announcements over the intercom: one for teachers to check their emails, one to hold indoor recess, and one for normal business to ensue. I felt that we were able to adequately protect the students without adding any stress or concern to their day. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
It was also wonderful to see so many of you last night at Parent Information Night. We are looking forward to getting in the groove with all of our students next week!
SPARK Code:
Our Guidelines for Success at Sheridan are centered around “Showing your SPARK”. We use this language each and every day to shape expectations and behavior for our students. We would love if you can reinforce the importance of SPARK at home with your child. In order to demonstrate that partnership, we are asking that you review the SPARK Guidelines with your child and then both sign off that you have reviewed them. Additionally, if you have a bus rider, we have included an additional sheet of SPARK Bus Expectations. If you can also review those and sign off, that would be great. We have developed this SPARK Code for your review and signature. Please print and return with your child no later than next Wednesday, September 7th. Thank you so much for your partnership!
Kindergarten Families:
If you have not turned in your health forms for the school year, please make sure that you do so. YOu can email them to Nurse Charlene at cfritz-brennan@lfschools.net or turn them into the office. Thank you for your cooperation!
Spanish Update:
We are still working on securing a Spanish teacher for the year. Mrs. Davis, who is one of our Preferred Building Substitute teachers is collaborating with the district Spanish teachers in order to match typical instruction. We will keep you updated.
Have a wonderful, LONG weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan

Early Childhood/Preschool Openings at District 67
Did you know? Lake Forest School District 67 offers Lake Forest residents with children ages 3-5 years an exemplary early childhood experience in the Community of Learners Preschool located at Sheridan Elementary School. The purpose of the program is to optimize the potential of each child through nurturing individual student growth in an integrated preschool setting. The Preschool currently has openings for the 2022-2023 Community of Learners program during the morning (8:30-11:00am) and afternoon (12:00-2:30pm) programs. Lake Forest High School is excited to announce the 3rd Annual Scout All-Out 5K on Saturday, September 10 at 9am! The race day will also include a 9:45 am 100 Meter Fun Run (for those 5 years old and under). Rallying around Scout pride and school spirit, this school tradition celebrates LFHS students and the school community and all proceeds go directly into the LFHS Student Council class accounts to create fun and enriching learning experiences. There will be prizes and celebrations along the way so please sign up to run, walk, or make a donation to show your support HERE!
Electric-Powered Scooter Safety Tips
With school back in session, there has been an increase in electric-powered scooters around Lake Forest. While e-scooters are a fun way to travel, they can be dangerous. The Lake Forest Police Department has a few reminders for parents, guardians, and students about how to ride an e-scooter safely:
Wear a helmet.
Test the brakes. Make sure you know how to use the brakes and how long it takes to stop the e-scooter so you’re prepared for an emergency stop.
Alert others and be seen. E-scooters are small, quick, and silent, making it difficult for others to spot you, especially in parking lots and structures. Expect vehicles and pedestrians to not see you; slow down, and plan ahead of time.
Ride solo. Only one person per e-scooter; additional riders can increase the risk and severity of collisions.
Find more safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
