Superintendent's Update - 4.14.2022

Dear CPS Community,

This is a short week for us, as there is no school tomorrow Friday, April 15th as we head into spring vacation. Schools are closed from Monday, April 18th through Friday, April 22nd, and reopening on Monday, April 25th. Monday, April 18th is referred to as “Marathon Monday,” and for the first time in three years, the Boston Marathon will be held. The past two years have been canceled due to COVID-19 and now many runners and participants are excited to host the event again this upcoming Monday. This event traditionally is held on the Massachusetts celebrated holiday of Patriots’ Day. Patriots’ Day commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, the start of the Revolutionary War where the colonists fought for independence from Great Britain. Please visit the Patriots’ Day Reenactment Schedule if you are looking for something fun to do on Monday.

As you are preparing for vacation week with travel and gatherings, please be sure to remain vigilant with your personal mitigation strategies to help control the spread of COVID-19 by using proper handwashing protocols, remaining home when feeling ill and distancing from others – also be sure to use your at-home test kits if you experience symptoms of COVID-19 this week. It is important that everyone do their part prior to the return to school so that we can end the school year in our current learning and event state.

If you are looking for information about vaccinations, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is partnering with local businesses to host free COVID-19 vaccination clinics during school vacation week, April 18th – 24th, at a variety of family-friendly venues such as trampoline parks, skating rinks, zoos, bowling alleys, and even Six Flags amusement park. Anyone who gets a vaccine or a booster dose at these clinics will receive a fun giveaway such as free admission tickets, bowling, bounce time, or goody bags. The clinics offer a fun way for the whole family to get up to date on their COVID vaccinations. The clinics are free to everyone 5 and older and no ID or proof of health insurance is required. For more information about the clinic dates, times, and locations, please refer to the following link.

I hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter highlights below. I wish you a wonderful holiday and vacation week and look forward to seeing everyone upon return to school.

Yours truly,

Jay Lang, Ed.D.

Parker Middle School 8th grader and PRIDE Rep Riley B. organized a clothing drive in her role as a Project 351 Student Ambassador. Project 351 is an independent nonprofit organization that builds a movement of youth-led service by engaging an unsung hero from each of Massachusetts' 351 cities and towns. United for a year of leadership and service, Ambassadors transform communities, elevate kindness, advance social justice, and gain the courage, compassion, and capabilities to lead change. Greater Lowell Health Alliance (GLHA) Survey

Dear Chelmsford Community,

Your input is needed. Complete the Greater Lowell Health Alliance (GLHA) survey and win one of five $50 gift cards. This is a terrific opportunity to be heard. The GLHA has launched the 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment to understand the needs and priorities for Chelmsford and our surrounding communities, so that the health department, hospitals, community organizations, schools, non-profits, policymakers, and leaders can make informed decisions. Currently, the survey is in the data collection phase, conducting focus groups, key informant interviews, and a community survey. Along with Chelmsford, the GLHA is collecting data from eight communities including Dracut, Billerica, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro, Westford, and Dunstable. Your input is crucial so that we have a good representation of Chelmsford residents. The survey is anonymous and will take about 15 minutes. At the end of the survey, enter your details for a chance to win one of five $50 gift cards. The deadline to submit the survey is April 30, 2022. The survey is available in multiple languages and in paper copy at the Town Hall, Senior Center, and Chelmsford Public Library.
