Rhodes MSP: Learning Through Leadership
Rhodes MSP 2017-2018
Student leadership is the guiding principle that creates a functioning learning environment for the Rhodes MSP program. The student elected Class Council meets weekly to evaluate class progress, make suggestions for classroom improvement, and discuss upcoming activities. The Class Council is composed of the following roles: President, Vice-President, Advisory Consultant, Attendance Monitors (2), Student Support Specialist (2), Historians (2), Artists (2). The Class Council is also responsible for leading the weekly, whole-class "Check-In".
Making Connections Through Educational Field Trips
One of the benefits of participating in the Rhodes Middle School Partners program is the opportunity to experience off-campus learning activities to relate learning to real-world applications. Field trips are designed to enhance post-secondary readiness and leadership skills. For example, the MSP students recently toured Texas A&M San Antonio and received information regarding the college admission process, degree plans offered, and what they can do now to prepare for college. Upcoming Rhodes MSP field trips include: William Sinkin EcoCentro, R.O.P.E.S Course Challenge, Elf Louise Christmas Service Project.
Building Relationships Using Restorative Circles
"Restorative Practices build community and can help set things right when the integrity of the community is challenged by harmful behaviors. When people come together for restorative interactions they sit in circles. Circle dialogue is a fundamental element of restorative dialogue. Classroom circles support the two main goals of restorative practices: building community; and responding to harms through dialogue that sets things right." - Amos Clifford, Center for Restorative Process Developed for San Francisco Unified School District
Spotlight on Top Progress
Rhodes MSP students, Alexa and Victoria, are leading the way in credit progress. Alexa completed World-Geo A & B, MSP Sociology, MSP Psychology, and is currently working on ATT Communication Applications.
Victoria completed World Geo A & B and is currently working on MSP Sociology. Both students not only maximize classroom instructional time to work on credits, they also work on lessons at home to continue progress. Great job!!!
