PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Parents,
I want to take a moment to celebrate the many exciting activities we experienced at Roosevelt this school year. Students have been experiencing the Second Step Program that teaches explicit skills in social development and interaction with others. In addition, many teachers are piloting a new "Units of Study" reading series that will be implemented district wide next fall. Each week students have been visiting our Technology Lab during recess to practice computer coding and utilizing various Maker Space items. Further, students have a daily and healthy hot lunch program.
Roosevelt prides itself on being a caring, friendly school community that feels small, but both inspires and challenges our students. So far this school year, teachers and staff recognized over 800 students and their classes for great behavior.
Our Roosevelt school community continues to express its caring spirit. This year we hosted over forty veterans on Veterans Day, and each classroom collected toys for needy children in the area through the UCAN Project.
Finally, I want to thank you for support and your partnership with our Roosevelt PTO. Together we raised over $40,000 for improvements to the playground, new benches, a primary Gaga Pit, and an outside drinking fountain.
May you enjoy the holiday season with family and friends. I am looking forward to a wonderful 2018.
Happy Holidays!
Dr. Dwyer

Cold Weather Guidelines at Roosevelt
During the cold weather months, we will implement several measures to keep students warm and safe. Below are some guidelines we will be following:
Inside During Arrival:
If the temperature feels like 10 degrees or colder…Beginning at 8:30am students will wait inside until the bell rings to go to class.
Inside During Grade Level Recess:
If the temperature feels like 10 degrees or colder…Each grade level team will decide if they go outside for a ten minute recess or remain inside.
Inside During Lunch Recess:
If the temperature feels like 0 degrees or colder….Students will remain inside for the 30 minute recess lunch period.

Put Your Child’s Name on Everything!
As winter approaches, students are bringing more clothing items to school each day. Write your child’s name and teacher’s name on hats, gloves, coats, lunch bags, boots, backpacks, and all other items. This will avoid your belongings being placed in our lost and found.

Be a Safe Driver!
· Park legally – don’t block crosswalks or double park
· Respect school neighbors – please do not park in or block their driveways.
· Parents and children should not use the Staff parking lot
· Do not make U-turns or turn around in driveways.
· “Attended” parkers must stay in their vehicles at all times.
· Obey “kiss ’n go” zones on Prospect Avenue
