Henking Family Newsletter
March 31st , 2022
It's time to plan for the 2022-23 school year!
We are now in the process of planning for the 2022-2023 school year. An important consideration in preparing for a successful year is the preparation of class lists. Our placement decisions involve team input and are completed with great care. As we finalize assignments, we prioritize many factors, including academic needs, behavior needs, peer relations, and balancing class size.
Our classroom teachers, fine arts team, student services team, and I will be working closely together to ensure that we have not overlooked any aspect of appropriate placement. If you have any additional special concerns as a parent about the placement of your child, please share these via email to ppuetz@glenview34.org by Friday, April 22, 2022. Please know that we consider this input seriously, but we cannot guarantee that all requests can be honored, some family requests may conflict with those of other families, or with groupings to meet student needs.
We kindly ask that parents NOT make special requests for teachers.
If your child will not be returning to Henking for the 2022-2023 school year because your family is moving or he/she will be enrolling in a private school, please let the office know as soon as possible via email to mzenzola@glenview34.org and abrito@glenview34.org.
Once classes have been formed, change is extremely difficult and typically will not occur. Now is the time for input. We deeply appreciate your help and support in this decision. Thank you!
Traffic Safety Reminder
At Henking School we pride ourselves on living up to our District 34 vision which includes the development of the whole child. As a staff, we strive to model our Guidelines for Success daily: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible.
To all of you who wait in the car line and patiently follow the rules, a BIG THANK YOU!
Recently, however, we have received multiple calls and complaints from community members in the area stating that SOME of our families are not following the rules at arrival and dismissal set forth by the village/school, consequently creating an unsafe situation for students during these times.
Here are some TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDERS:
Follow the rules indicated by the signage
Do not enter the west parking lot through the “EXIT ONLY” sign.
Do not park in the “NO PARKING” zones indicated by signs (i.e. on Wedel near the school) or cones unless you have principal permission as buses and other cars are being blocked
Do not use your phones while in the parking lot
Other
Do not let your child run across the street to the car
Do not park in neighbors’ driveways unless you get permission from the owner of the house
Do not attempt to enter the west parking lot while traveling westbound on Linneman.
Do not attempt to enter the line at the four-way stop (Huber/Crowley) proceed to the back of the line.
Alternative to waiting in the car line
Park at the Crowley Park parking lot and walk up to the building.
Students who are “walkers” are dismissed through Door F
Note: the Fire Lane is a No Parking Zone

2nd Annual PTA ReadaThon Begins Monday, April 4!!!
We are SO excited to kick off our 2nd Annual ReadaThon next week, and wanted to give each family a chance to get their child registered and excited before kick off on Monday. Read below for some FAQs & link to register!
What is the ReadaThon?? This OPTIONAL activity is available to any He/Ho student who wishes to set a reading goal over the course of a week and help raise money for their school! Reading can be done at home, at school, in the bath.. wherever! Students will set a goal, reach out for pledges from friends + families to support their goal, then track their minutes read online! The class (at each school) with the MOST MINUTES READ will win an ice cream/popsicle party from the PTA and that classroom teacher will also receive a $50 gift card!
WHEN is the ReadaThon?! Registration is open -- use this link! Reading + logging minutes begins Monday, April 4 and ends Sunday April 10!
Why are We Doing This?!?! To increase excitement around reading and raise money for our schools!! In addition, would like to use this as an opportunity to give back to the community by offering bins at each school to donate any unwanted, gently used books. These books will be donated to the Glenview Public Library and Bernie’s Book Bank! Bins will be located at the front entrance of each school beginning Monday!
- To celebrate our readers, we will be having a Spirit Day on Friday, April 8 at each school!! Children are invited to wear their spirit wear or anything with school colors! Of course all of this is totally optional, and should you have any questions you are welcome to reach out to Gillian (vicepresident@hehopta.org)
(We encourage all participants to use the website linked above, but if you don't have access to a computer or internet, please reach out to us and we can work with you to ensure all students who wish to participate are able!)
Online Registration for Kindergarten Is OPEN!
If you have a child who will be 5 by September 1, 2022, we need you to register online as soon as possible! The District will make staffing decisions, and plan for half-day programming, based on enrollment numbers in March. Registrations help District 34 with hiring and planning details so we're ready to go for 2022-23!
Fees
Save $300 by registering before March 30, 2022. Payment for Full Day K is automatically spaced in installments and payment plans are available! The early registration rate for half-day kindergarten is $127.
Fee Waivers & Reduced Fees
Families who need financial assistance can apply for an income-based fee waiver. Those who apply must provide proof of income to be considered for free or reduced FDK fees. The reduced fee is $580. The criteria for receiving a fee waiver are the same as the National School Lunch Program.
