Quotes and analysis
Quote:
Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her. "It isn't fair," she said. A stone hit her on the side of the head. (page-7, Shirley Jackson)
Analysis: This shows that citizens didn’t have any type of rights to their life basically because they are going to throw rocks at her until she’s dead.
Quote: "I wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry?' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason."'
"But no animal can reason," objected Rainsford.
"My dear fellow," said the general, "there is one that can." "But you can't mean--" gasped Rainsford.
"And why not?". (page 8, Richard Connell)
Analysis: The general wasn’t hunting animals anymore because he was hunting people on the island also the animals weren’t a challenge anymore.
