Dr. Emily Tammaru is Next Superintendent
Dr. Emily Tammaru was the unanimous choice of the District 30 Board of Education to serve as our next superintendent, beginning on July 1, 2023.
With 27 years in education and 18 years of administration, she currently serves as Superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 89.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to serve the Northbrook and Glenview communities,” Dr. Tammaru said. "I look forward to partnering with the students, staff, the Board of Education and community to build upon the strong academic and social-emotional foundation the district has established.”

Summer School 2023 Dates & Information
Mark your calendars for the 2023 District 30 Summer School Program! The program will run for five weeks starting Tuesday, June 13 through Friday, July 14. We will observe holidays on June 19, July 3, and July 4 with no student attendance.
Registration for in-district families will open in February. In the meantime, please visit our website and if you have questions, please email summerschool@district30.org.

Reminders from the Health Office
For those participating in the SHIELD program, testing will resume on Tuesday, January 3.
Please keep your child home when they are not feeling well. They should not return to school until they have been fever free for 24 hours (without use of fever-reducing medication) and/or free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours.
*For any of the below symptoms, please arrange COVID-19 testing prior to your child's return to school. Per IDPH guidelines, testing should be done within 48 hours of symptom development. At this time, rapid antigen testing is accepted, including home testing, as long as your child has not had any recent close contact with a person known to have COVID-19. If recent close contact has occurred, please contact the health office to discuss testing options.
COVID-19-like symptoms include:
- Fever above 100.4
- New cough/congestion
- Sore Throat
- Muscle/Body Aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Unexplained fatigue
- Vomiting/Diarrhea

Author Visit for K-1
Teacher-author Jamie Zeller Bitton will visit Wescott Kindergarten and 1st-graders the morning of Thursday, January 5 to discuss her book, The New Kid. Purchase a copy of her book here. Students may bring their books in that day to have them autographed.

2023 School Board Elections
Nominating Petition Deadline is Dec. 19
Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 will have four school board seats to be filled at the Consolidated Election on April 4, 2023. Candidates who are elected will fill four-year terms expiring in April 2027.
Candidates for the office of the school board can now circulate nominating petitions for signatures. The period for filing nominating petitions runs from December 12 through December 19, 2022.
A candidate for the school board is required to file the nominating petitions, Statement of Candidacy, and receipt for filing their Statement of Economic Interests with the applicable county election clerk and not with the school board secretary or the administrative offices of the school district. The county clerk may have petition forms available, or blank petitions may be downloaded from the State Board of Elections website: elections.il.gov.
Candidates may also want to consult the “2023 Candidate’s Guide” (https://www.elections.il.gov//Downloads/ElectionOperations/PDF/2023CanGuide.pdf), which can be downloaded from the Illinois State Board of Elections website, or contact the county clerk or board of election commissioners regarding the requirements of filing. Candidates and voters can get information about District 30 from our website and learn about being a school board member from the Illinois Association of School Boards at: iasb.com/elections.

SHIELD Saliva tests must be turned in to your child’s school before 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Important Information
Throughout the year, packs with multiple testing kits will be sent home with your child
Use one each week and save the remaining for future use
Only return samples in the bag with the QR code and your child’s name
Instructions are available here and on the website at District 30 Health and Safety Guidance
Future supplies will be provided only to students who have participated in testing, therefore, hold onto your supplies if you think you may use them at some point
Please reach out to your school’s Health Office should you need additional supplies
