The requirements

Fire service -

- Teamwork - This means where a group of people work together in order to achieve the target... For example the fire service use it when they are trying to carry heavy equipment.

- Ability to follow instructions - They must follow instructions because if they don't then most likely they will not know what they are doing.

- You must have a perfect eye-sight - They must have a perfect eye sight in order to pass the test, the reason for is because when they are trying to save a casualty, they must see clearly where they are and also they must look carefully if there's anymore casualties that are unconsious.

- You must be physically fit - You must be physically fit in order to pass the fitness test because as a fire fighter you will be carrying heavy equipement and also carrying heavy casualties.

- Good Communication - It is important to use communication in the fire service because of the fact that they will need to communicate with each other about what they need to do or in order to achieve a target.

Police Service -

- Problem solving - This is where you will be able to deal with situation that happen around you quickly without needing to ask others.

- Team working skills and the ability to work independently - It is important that you are good at working with others because of the fact that in the police service you will have a partner to work with so you must know how to work with her/him and how to handle situations together.

- Confidence and resilience - You must have a lot of confidence in order to join the police service because for example when you are about to present a presentation to other police officers, you must be confident because if you are not then you wont be able to present it properly and be struggling.

- It is only open to British, Commonwealth citizens and foreign nationals who have no restrictions on their leave to remain in the UK

- Sound judgement and a proper respect for confidentiality

- Respect for diversity - You must have respect for the diversity in order to pass the police interview, the reason for this is because if a police officer doesn't show respect to diversity then the people will not respect them back.

- Physically fit- You must be physically fit in order to pass the fitness test because as a police officer you will be moving about too much and also patrolling areas..


Education are open to all people and there are no further educational qualifications needed but qualification could be useful during the selection process in order to stand out in the competition.

Physical Staying healthy and keeping your body fit and doing exercises regularly so that you can join the police and fire service.


Medical You cannot join if you have any illness's that will effect your fitness like for example if you have an illness that can effect your physical fitness then you will not be able to run or lift any heavy equipment.

Application process

Fire service


Stage 1 - You will need to fill out an application form based on questions like what are your interests, your personal details, residence and nationality , what your hobbies and what you are good at and also what are your previous work experiences. In the application you must not leave any blank spaces, many fire services will fail you for forgetting to put your postcode in the right box, especially if they have asked you to supply it.


Stage 2 - After the fire service had read your application and they are happy about it... They will send your a form to the address you have provided them to confirm you that you have passed your application process, and you will asked to come to an interview on the day and time provided.



Stage 3 - After turning up for your interview on time.... You will be asked to sit down at the waiting area and wait until the interviewer comes out and asks for you.

When you go into the interview room, you must show good example of yourself by greeting the interviewers.

In the interview you will be asked what are your interests and hobbies and also be asked why it is important to respect the diversity for example, and also in the fire service they will be asking you why you chose the fire service and what are you good at.



Stage 4 - After achieving enough points to be able to pass your interview ... You will be doing a fitness test... LIKE

Fire service

- Ladder climb

- Enclosed spaces

- Equipment assembly

- Equipment carry.

Even if you don't pass the test at your first attempt you will be allowed to re-take. However, if you fail the test after three attempts your application will be halted and you will not be eligible to re-apple for six months.

Stage 5 -

After passing everything in the fire service ... You will be giving a certificate confirming your pass and you will be giving a Fire service uniform.

Application process

Police Service

Stage 1 - You will need to fill out an application form based on questions like what are your interests, your personal details, residence and nationality , what your hobbies and what you are good at and also what are your previous work experiences. In the application you must not leave any blank spaces, many services will fail you for forgetting to put your postcode in the right box, especially if they have asked you to supply it.


Stage 2 - When the police service had read your application and if they are happy about it then they will call the number and send a letter to the address you have provided them and ask you to come in on a certain day and time for an interview.


Stage 3 - When you turn up to the police station, you must seat down in the patience area as you will be told and wait until the interviewer calls you in to start interviewing you.... Also in order to pass the interview, you must have enough point and to get enough points, You must answer every question that you will be asked and answer them with full explanation.


Stage 4 - After being told in the interview that you have passed your interview... You will be called in for fitness tests and a simple maths test. The police service do fintess trainings such as;


Police service

- Endurance shuttle run - To pass it you must run to level 5.4

- Dynamic strength - To pass it you must have the average over the 5 attempts


If you don't pass your interview, it would not mean that you can't apply for it again in the future... you can re-apply for it in the next 6 months so you dont have to worry about it if you fail your first attempt.


Stage 5 - After passing everything, you will recieve a certificate to comfirm your pass... You will then recieve a timetable and a uniform.
