Laura Bush Grant Books Arrive- Family Event

Our library is excited to be the winner of the 2015-2016 Laura Bush Grant for libraries. We received $7,000 to purchase new books for our students. Many parents attended our family event pictured below and got to check out the new books with the children. I saw many smiling faces as we unveiled tons of books in English and Spanish.

Dr. Seuss Week Celebration

During the week of Dr. Suess's birthday we celebrated throughout the school by listening to read alouds of The Lorax and The Cat in the Hat Came Back. We also had silly hat day, a poster contest and we even discovered new Seuss apps at the library. Students enjoyed the wacky style of Dr. Seuss and showed their passion for reading.

Amy Marquez, Librarian

This is my 16th year in education. I'm passionate about inspiring students to be readers and making our library a welcoming retreat for all learners. I am a 2015-2016 Laura Bush Foundation grant recipient, on the Renaissance National Honor Roll, finalist for the South Texas Literacy Coalition Excellence in Libraries Award 2014, and featured in on the cover of the Texas Library Journal Fall 2015.

"Libraries are exciting places because learning comes to life when students are inspired to explore."
