OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL T2 W7

TE KURA O TO MATOU WHAINE O RUATA

HELLO, KIA ORA, KIA ORĀNA, MALO E LELEI, TALOFA, NAMASTE, KUMUSTA...

Welcome to Week 7 - and some pretty exciting weather happening around the place - it makes for great story writing!!! Take good care out there and take good care of yourselves.

Unfortunately our school is still seeing a large number of children away most days. We seem to be getting hit hard with a flu-virus which sees our children very unwell for at least a week, we are still having positive Covid cases as well as a tummy bug. For those that can we would encourage mask wearing to assist us all as we head into the colder months. We are once again raising the good hygiene practises in and out of the school - in the hopes we are stopping any germs coming into the school and then heading home to you.

Thank you to those who are letting us know where your child is each day they are away from school - it can take up to an hour to locate where everyone is if you do not let us know by email, the school app or a phone call. The Ministry of Education requires us to know where every child is every school day.

Welcome to Jared, Martina's little brother who began his school days this week.

150th ANNIVERSARY OF PALMERSTON NORTH

This morning, Tuesday14th, Mr Brent Barret and Mr Bruno Petrenas arrived at our school to present us with a Matai tree to mark this significant moment in time. Our senior kapa haka children performed our school song and haka, as well as singing a waiata as the tree was planted. Mr Bruno Petrenas was a previous student here in the 1960s so it was lovely to show him our school. It was a great morning and we thank them both for their time.

MATARIKI PLANNING

After careful consideration of the large amount of illness in our school/kura we will not be holding the dawn liturgy. In these times we are unable to share in our morning breakfast/kai and with the current cold weather we feel it is better to keep our children and whanau well and warm. We will be having a week of activities around Matariki in our rooms as we learn more about this wonderful Māori New Year. A reminder that school is closed next FRIDAY for the first public holiday for Matariki - enjoy this time.

SCRIPTURE READING COMPETITION

We were so very proud of Lizzie as she read her piece of scripture at the inter school competition last week - she did our school proud. Unfortunately Emily was unable to make the night but the perseverance she showed was outstanding.

INTER SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

Last week, Kellan and Milo represented our school in this event at Ashhurst Domain. It is a mighty race and they both did us proud.

CONFERENCES AND MID YEAR REPORTING

We hope you have been able to book a time via the online booking system (see instructions below) to meet with your child's teacher face to face in your child's classroom. FAITH FACTS FOR TERM 2

Week 7 (13-17 June)

“One of the key components of the renewal of our diocese through Our Faith Our Future, is the life of the parish outside of Sunday Mass. Over the last two years it has been very difficult to bring people together. As we begin to gather again, I want us all to consider what is happening in our parishes and school communities to support our faith lives from Monday to Saturday?

(Archbishop Paul Martin, Extract from Inform, Issue 131- Lent 2022)

Tuesday 15 June is the Feast Day of St Vitus.

Little is definitively known about St Vitus, apart from the fact of his martyrdom in Lucania. Devotion to the Saint is known from the beginning of the Middle Ages. St Vitus was known for healing miracles; he is invoked especially against epilepsy and other neurological disorders.

KAHUI AKO (COMMUNITY OF LEARNING) WELL BEING update

We are so very fortunate that we are part of our Catholic Kahui Ako (Community of Learning). Over the coming weeks and months we are having a focus on wellbeing for our families. We are looking at creating a little kete for every family in our Catholic schools within our Kahui Ako who has Well Being as a focus.

We will be sharing these at Conferences - so make sure you book a time to meet with your child's teacher.

We will be adding to this little kete every newsletter so keep an eye out for this. There will be ideas to support whanau, building resiliency, living with an attitude of Gratitude.
