RMS Wildcat Weekly
October 25, 2019 Information for our Families
Happy Friday!
So many exciting events for our Wildcats this past week! We want to thank our wonderful Choir students and our Choral Director Mrs. Inouye for a fantastic choir concert. Our students were so impressive, and we're proud of the hard work they have put in! Thank you to everyone who attended! Roosevelt programs and students were also well represented at the Festival of the Arts last weekend. The RMS Band and Choir performances were awesome, and we had a wonderful RMS booth showcasing our programs and student work! Go, Wildcats!
General News:
PAWS of the Month - Integrity: We work hard to reinforce a positive, safe, and academic culture at RMS. We are recognizing students with “ROAR” Positive Referrals, and our students get shout outs, ice cream, and a text home when they receive a “ROAR.” Our teachers also nominate and recognize Students of the Month for demonstrating our PAWS (Positive Attributes Wildcats Show). This morning, we had 54 students recognized for demonstrating INTEGRITY, our PAWS of the Month for October. It’s wonderful to acknowledge our students for their excellent character and the great contributions they are making to our school community!
Halloween: Students are permitted to wear costumes for Halloween, and are encouraged to participate in the PTA sponsored Halloween Costume Contest on Thursday, October 31st. Please ensure that students follow the RMS Costume Guidelines. These will also be posted on the website. Masks are not allowed; however, make-up is permitted.
Talent Show: “Wildcats Got Talent Show” is coming up on November 21st, the deadline for signups was Friday, October 25th. PTA will soon be contacting you with the dates for practices.
The RMS PTA Charleston Fundraiser has started! Look for information in your student’s backpack. It is online orders only and items ship directly to your home. Please participate! Please promote using the email sharing program at https://charlestonwrapstore.com/studentregistration.php Our School code is 17112.
The VUSD Family and Community Engagement Network invited you to celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) next Friday, November 1st at the Family and Community Engagement Center. Click here to get more information.
Attendance: Attendance is key to student success! Please encourage your student to attend school every day and arrive on time. Remember, absences must be cleared within 72 hours (3 school days) after student returns to school. We also appreciate when you schedule dental/doctor appointments outside of the school day to avoid instructional interruptions.
Safety Reminder: Parents, please remind your students to use the crosswalk when arriving or leaving school. The heavy traffic makes it unsafe for students because drivers may not see them as they cross the street.
Our award-winning Wildcat yearbook staff is currently taking pre-orders for the 2019-2020 yearbook at 20% off the end-of-the-year price! Support our school by purchasing a yearbook through the front office, our RMS webstore, or www.jostens.com! Click here to see our flyer.

Counseling Corner!
This week, we celebrated Red Ribbon Week to spread awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and the importance of making healthy choices. It is important to continue these conversations year-round. Check out this article for tips on having clear communication with your teen about drug and alcohol use.
We are very excited to announce our first RMS Career Fest that will be held on November 12th & 14th from 8:30-11:30am. On these days, students will have an opportunity to hear from local professionals in different careers and learn about how to prepare for their future. We are still in need for guest speakers, so if you or someone you know you like to volunteer to speak to our students about your career, please contact Nancy Licona or Cory Way for more information.
If you notice that your student could use a little extra help, our B.L.A.S.T. (Boost Learning After School Tutoring) is now open! B.L.A.S.T. aims to help students succeed in their classes in a fun and supportive environment after school. There is a maximum of 35 students allowed per classroom, so come on over after school before spots will up! Tutoring takes place 3:15pm - 4:15pm. Click here to take a look at the BLAST schedule.
Roosevelt has over 20 clubs that take place during lunch and after school. Most of our clubs are open and students can show up to any meeting. For a list of clubs being offered this year CLICK HERE. If there is a club your student wants to start that we don’t already have, they can come get an application from the counseling office.
