Lieck Goes Beyond the Game!
October 2023 Parent Newsletter
INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL DAY: 7:45 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
WELCOME TO OCTOBER LIECK FAMILIES!
We hope your child has adjusted well as we start the 6th week of school. We have seen students work hard to learn the routines and procedures of the school and classroom and really starting to thrive.
This year we have seen the need to make safety improvements around the school such as increased safety drills, door checks and increased staff visibility. One procedure we will continue to keep in place is that interior doors will remain in the locked position when students are in the classroom. This serves as an added layer of safety and security for students and staff inside. One piece of communication we will continue to reiterate is, if you see something, say something. Please see information below regarding more district-wide messaging around safety measures.
In terms of academics, some students are coming in slightly behind and some are coming in exactly where they need to be. If there was one thing that I can say to my parents, they are EXACTLY where they need to be and we will grow together.
Small Group Instruction:
Now that we are moving into week 6 and beyond your child is working at developing plans to accomplish their academic goals. One instructional strategy we use to target student learning is to have students work in small groups with the teacher. This type of instruction occurs in both reading and math. Research shows that students work better in small groups with targeted skills and concepts for concept attainment. It also allows students to develop their oral language and social skills when working with the teacher.
Math Focus:
This year one of our campus improvement goals is in the area of Math. More specifically you will see all classrooms work to improve our academic vocabulary, fact fluency and problem solving. One way you can help at home is to have your child practice their math facts starting with addition and subtraction and if appropriate, multiplication and division. Soon we will have access to a fact fluency computer program where students will be able to practice their math facts daily. Recommended daily practice is 20-30 minutes daily.
We are excited to see all the positive things that October brings!
Thank you for your support in helping our children Level Up at Lieck!

Parents, you are welcome to walk your child to class during the first two days of school however effective Day 3 our staff will guide your child to their classroom thereafter. You can drop off your child curbside or at the door and our staff will take over from there.
Additionally at dismissal, we highly encourage for families to remain in their vehicle at front pick-up to avoid unsafe, unnecessary crowding. For our "walk-up" parents, we will continue to use the side areas as waiting areas and we will bring your child to you.

Student Birthdays- No Goodie Bags, Drinks or Balloons
Parents may send store-bought, prepackaged individually frosted cupcakes, cookies, or doughnuts only for their child’s classroom to recognize their child’s birthday (no cakes, cupcake cakes, ice cream, etc.). As an alternative to food, parents may send an item for each student in the class such as stickers, stationary, pencils, etc. These items should be safe, inexpensive, easy to pass out, and not promote any political, religious, or other slogans/beliefs. School personnel will have the sole discretion as to whether or not the items are appropriate to pass out. It is best to check with your child’s teacher in advance.
Balloons, goodie bags, or food items (other than those above) are strictly prohibited. When purchasing cupcakes, be aware that there are a number of students on campus that have food allergies. Check with your child’s teacher before sending cupcakes to school to ensure items sent can be taken to the classroom. Cupcakes are to be dropped off at the school office and our staff will deliver them to the classrooms near the end of the school day. The cupcakes must not be eaten in the cafeteria and will be passed out to the children at the very end of the school day in order to limit disruption to instructional time. Parents and family members are not allowed to deliver cupcakes to the classroom.

Buses and Boundaries
Northside ISD assigns students to schools according to the street address where the student resides. Our Boundaries and Buses Information System will provide you with the name and address of the schools serving your area. Just enter the student’s street number and street name to search for school assignment, bus route information, and any future Board adopted boundary changes.
For general boundary information, attendance area maps for each elementary, middle & high schools are listed on the campus sites.
While one-on-one communication is the best, in a district as large as Northside ISD it is sometimes difficult. Because we want our parents to stay informed, NISD has several ways that parents and other interested citizens can stay informed about the successes and challenges of San Antonio’s premier school district of choice, as well as find out news about their children’s schools.
