1 more email about Sunday afternoon
Sunday WON'T be about presenting our theological arguments
I am guessing that we all have a perspective on the topic of human sexuality (for many of us this is a strongly held position, for others it's more loosely held). Most of us have biblical reasoning to support our perspective. Very few of us will be persuaded to change our minds in the midst of a "panel discussion."
ALL of us are called to model Christlikeness in the midst of disagreements.
So...Sunday will focus on sharing the structure of our United Methodist "system" and the process of our "General Conference." We will take a look at our "Book of Discipline" to get a better understanding of how it is intended to serve as a guide for ministry. And we will share the basics of all three plans that have been presented by the Commission on a Way Forward and endorsed by our Council of Bishops.
I'd once again invite you all to take a look at the resource links provided in yesterday's email.
Here is another 20 minute video that helps put into perspective how important it is to be respectful of other's positions related to the topic of human sexuality...
(Many of my colleagues and I like most everything about this video up until about the 15 minute mark. His comments about the African Church come off as somewhat belittling...)
