Widen ACE News! Friday, April 9, 2021

Hello ACE Families!

Where has all time gone? The Spring semester is on 16 weeks long and we are 5 weeks away from our final week! Our students are busy preparing for our final family event coming up on Thursday, May 13th! More information coming your way in a few weeks!

More information will be forthcoming when it becomes available to us on the new ACE grant or the 2021 - 2022 school year! .

In-Person and Remote learning will be available for the ACE Summer Camp 21'. What will that look like? Well..., simply that we will be doing exactly what we are currently doing. However, we strongly encourage in-person learning! We are asking our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers to recommend students that need extra support in Math, Reading and Science. ACE is reaching out to families to encourage their students to participate in our Summer program.

Research shows that summer learning helps bridge summer learning gaps among economically disadvantaged areas. What ACE offers is a place where students can learn at their own pace and improve their grades for the coming school year. This year AISD has seen a tremendous learning loss due to the pandemic and if there ever is a time to make a difference in improving a students' academic success, that's now! So, take advantage of this great opportunity and remember that there is no out of pocket costs involved.

Please scroll down to access our ACE Smore Registration pages. Please follow the instructions in the ACE Smore Registration page and save it on your device for reference and use over the summer camp.

ACE is a first come, first serve program, but we also look at a student's needs and we reserve the right to work with those in need of academic support based on current grades, benchmark scores and state assessments.

Please continue to encourage your students to submit work and to continue to participate! We love having them on our Zoom sessions!

Program Schedule

  • Monday thru Thursday 3:00 - 5:30 pm
  • Fridays 3:00 - 5:00 pm

Student devices will continue to stay on campus moving forward.

Coming Up AISD & ACE Important date/s:

  • Wednesday, April 14th is our ACE Family Garden Party! Join us to at 6 pm for Family fun and let's Celebrate Earth Day together!

As we move forward with our program we want to encourage all of our students to submit their activity projects on our EXIT TICKET. This can be in the form of photo or video. TEA requires for funding purposes that any instruction that is done remotely provide evidence of student work. We also want to brag about what our students are doing and learning in ACE!

Does your child need academic assistance?

Every year ACE After-School at Widen Elementary School partners with VICTORY Tutorial to provide a stable 1:1 tutorial service for students in grades 1 thru 5th. This service is completely FREE, there are no costs involved and no gimmicks.

Currently there are over 120 tutors recruited from local colleges and universities. All tutors go through a universal background check through AISD before they are placed with a student. Due to COVID-19, most tutoring is being conducted virtually. That means that your child would be placed on a schedule and then would have to join by accessing a link in our Blend Learning Platform. (Look for the button like the one below to access our tutoring services.).

You many be receiving a call soon from your child's homeroom teacher to let you know that your child has been referred to tutorial services and then they will share links with you to accomplish this. Each student receiving services must go through the registration process.

Below is the Smore link with both the ACE and VICTORY Tutorial registration links. Please fill out both.

Should you have any questions about this program please feel free to contact:

Corrina Noriega, VICTORY Tutorial Coordinator

or you can reach her by phone at 512-797-3098.
