Culturally Responsive Classrooms:
One Student at a Time
Presented by Dr. Cephas Archie
Across the region, students of color, students with disabilities, those learning English, and those from economic disadvantage face challenges that their peers do not. Unfortunately, some of those challenges are a result of implicit biases and instructional practices that we impose in our classrooms. This session will address the role of implicit bias and cultural competence in the decisions educators make each and every day as they create instructional plans for their students. Specifically participants will build awareness for recognizing bias and microaggressions in a classroom and how those beliefs and actions shelter some students from the learning process.
