Heat Advisory

Gator Families,

With the excessive heat advisory please be sure to send your child to school with a refillable water bottle and protective wear (sunblock, hats). Students are able to refill their water bottles at our water refill stations around campus. In addition, please note that when the temperature is over 100 degrees, PE classes will plan to conduct PE indoors. Thank you for your help and support with this!!

Student Spotlight - Making a Difference at Marsh Jr.

My name is Kyren Le'Sean Conn-Gaston. I'm a 6 grader at Marsh Jr High School. I have created a new program called Campus Clean. I am so excited to get it out to the school. Campus Clean is basically a way to inspire students at MJHS to pick up trash. So how Campus Clean works is any student after school from 2:45 - 3:15 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday can bring in three pieces of trash and can receive three pieces of candy. I really believe this will help keep the campus clean. I am so excited

Percussion Club is rockin out!

Check out our awesome students in the percussion club! These gators have been hard at work every Tuesday and Thursday!

We are Going to Be Friends

Check out this inspirational video from the Marsh Chorus. Great job Austin Kin and our amazing Gators!!

Club Live - Positive Pops

Club Live hosted their first school culture event this week at the student lunches. Club live student officers ran a station where students could come come over, answer a question around positive affirmations, and receive a popsicle in return. It was great to see the positivity spread across campus.

If you are interested in being a part of Club Live, check out the Club link on the Marsh Jr. High Website for more information.

WEB Activity for Advisement's Flex Friday

8th Grade WEB leaders reconnected with their 6th grade protégés this last Friday during the Advisement period. They were able to do a quick survey checking in on how each 6th grader was feeling about the social and academic components of Marsh. Following the in class activity each 6th grade class went outside for a fun team building tag game. WEB will continue to push into 6th grade advisement classes every 3 weeks to support their transition to Marsh.

Tabacco Prevention at Marsh

This week at the student lunch the KLEAN (Kids Leading Everyone Against Nicotine) team was on campus educating students about the harmful effects of tobacco use. Students learned about the different chemicals that are found in vapes, as well as the number of hospitalizations and death due to smoking vapes. After learning, students were given a brief verbal quiz and had the opportunity to earn prizes by answering correctly.

If your student is interested in being part of the KLEAN club please have them check out the Marsh Website for more information.

Attendance Matters at Marsh Junior High School

Did you know that Marsh is an AVID School site?

What is AVID?

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an in-school academic support program for grades seven through twelve. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for college eligibility and success.

AVID Elective

The core component is the AVID Elective, which supports students as they tackle the most rigorous classes. For one period a day, AVID students learn: organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable.

Furthermore, AVID students become academically successful leaders and role models for other students.

AVID Schoolwide

The AVID instructional program focuses on methodologies that will help students prepare for - and participate in - a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. These methodologies are referred to as WICOR:

W - Writing. Students clarify and communicate their thoughts and understanding of material.

I - Inquiry. Students ask questions which allow them to clarify, analyze, and synthesize material.

C - Collaboration. Students challenge, help, and learn from one another.

O - Organization. Students learn how to organize, retrieve and maintain their materials and data.

R - Reading. Students analyze, question, critique, clarify, and comprehend material.

All of our Marsh Teachers have been trained in AVID WICOR instructional strategies and implement this methodology in the core class setting.

Take a moment to check out more about AVID on our Marsh Website.

AVID WICOR Spotlight

This week's AVID WICOR Spotlight is Ms. Hodges Math class. Ms. Hodges had students create emoji graphs to help learn the concepts of graphing and it's coordinates. Students learned so much more than graphing through her engaging and collaborative lesson. Following the creation of their graphs students then did a Gallery Walk where they toured each table checking out each others graphs. Way to go Ms. Hodges Math class, you are WICOR all-stars!!

Classroom Spotlight

This week's classroom spotlight is on our Mrs. Larrance' s math class. This week students have been charting distance, hang time, and flight accuracy on paper airplanes they each created. This mad learning fun and engaging, and brought math and graphing to life for her students. Way to go Mrs. Larrance!!!
