Speech and Debate
It was a tough one and our lack of winter competition due to weather showed-- but I'm so proud of the whole team-- they represent Hood River as mature, compassionate, and engaged learners. I get compliments on them at every tournament. We were one of the largest teams there and were the only large team to come from a school that does not have a Competitive Speech class-- Ashland, who won 5A, has 2 full sections of competitive speech in addition to their intro to speech classes. So I think we hold our own quite well. Thank you all for your continued support of the team. Fundraisers for the Nationals trip have been planned. I'll send info soon. -- DeLona
Ruby Patterson won 2nd Place in Original Oratory at the OSAA State Speech competition on April 22nd. Junior Mason Leavitt made it to the semi-final round of competition in Radio Commentary. Hood River Valley High School took 18 students to the state tournament which was held at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. According to coach DeLona Campos-Davis, “the competition was especially challenging this year, but our young team had a good showing in their preliminary rounds.” The only senior to compete for HRVHS at district and state was Douglas Asai, who competed in both Lincoln-Douglas debate and Extemporaneous speaking. The team is currently recruiting new members in preparation for next year.

SCHOLARSHIP NIGHT
May 25: Thursday, 7:00 pm
Recipients of the Local Scholarships will be given their awards at Senior Scholarship Night at 7:00 p.m.. Any student receiving a Local Scholarship will be sent an invite the week prior. Family and friends of the recipient are also invited to join us.
A NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
As it is allergy season - just a reminder that for any medication needed during school hours the front office must have a medication administration form on file. If a student is carrying their own medication, the medication administration form must be signed by parents/guardian and a student’s healthcare provider. If a student is going to have the medication in the front office, the form should just be signed by parent/guardian. All medications that will be kept in the front office must be brought into school by a parent/guardian and must have student’s name on the container. All medications must be picked up by parent at the end of the school year – any medication not picked up will be thrown away.
