Message from Dr. Malally
I hope that everyone enjoyed a nice three day weekend! It is hard to believe that there are only thirteen days of school left. This Friday, June 1st, we are holding our Annual Field Day. This is a great event for parents and families to come out and volunteer to facilitate the different activities out on our field. If you are interested, there is a sign-up sheet in the front office. Field Day begins at the start of the school day and ends a little before 10:00 AM.
Our last Saturday 100 Mile Club for the school year is this Saturday, June 2nd from 9:00 - 10:00 AM. The Vance Family will continue to host Sunday 100 Mile Club at Padua Park from 4:00 - 5:00 PM for the next two Sundays. Friday, June 8th, is our last Friday 100 Mile Club for students. The 100 Mile Club Medal Ceremonies will be held on Wednesday, June 13th in the MPR. Check the school's website calendar for specific grade level times.
Our 3rd Trimester PBIS Good Behavior Assembly will be held next Thursday, June 7th. Students who did not receive any behavior referrals will be treated to a BMX bike stunt team assembly out on our blacktop at 9:00 AM.
Have a GREAT week!

CUSD's Elementary School Counseling Program Overview
Claremont Unified School District’s Elementary School Counseling Program provides consultation for school staff and counseling for students attending one of the seven elementary schools in Claremont. These services take place during school hours and the academic school year. The Elementary School Counseling Program supports all aspects of social-emotional development for school-age children including mental health wellness, mental health concerns and adverse childhood experiences. The Elementary School Counseling Program is integrated throughout each elementary school to support universal interventions, promote social and emotional well-being of all students (e.g. Mental Health Matters Month, Green Ribbon Week, Mindfulness Groups, Kindergarten Social Skills, PBIS) and therapeutic interventions for students with mental health needs. The Elementary School Counseling program works with students, families, schools and community resources to coordinate and address barriers to learning as an essential aspect of school functioning. Referrals to the Elementary School Counseling Program are made through collaboration with school staff secondary to a social-emotional need that may be impacting the student in the school environment. Claremont Unified School District has partnered with Master’s Programs at local Universities to provide clinical internships to Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Trainees and Master of Social Work (MSW) Interns; these Trainees/Interns provide the therapeutic interventions to students at the school site. All Trainees/Interns are supervised by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
School Lockdown Information
What Should Parents Do In the Event of a School Lockdown?
Don’t Panic - There are a number of reasons that a school may have a lockdown. Sometimes we may have a stray animal. Police officers may be making an arrest in the area and are taking extra precautions or there is something we just do not want children to see. In all situations it is because we want to make sure that our students and staff members are safe.
How Do We Initiate a Lockdown?
The office will make an announcement that we are on a lockdown on the school PA system and handheld radios.
What Do You Do If You Are on Campus When a Lockdown is Announced?
· Everyone, parents and students, must follow the directions of the staff and go into the nearest locked room.
· Stay calm and listen to the staff. If you panic the children will panic. Help the teacher or staff member by following directions.
· If your child is already in a room, do not try to go be with your child or contact your child. Go directly to the nearest room.
· Silence your phone. DO NOT TRY TO CALL YOUR CHILD ON THE PHONE.
· If you are in a restroom, lock the door and remain quiet.
· Do not evacuate if the fire alarm goes off.
· Do not leave the room unless it is announced that it is all clear and safe to exit.
· If you hear from someone that the school is on a lockdown, do not try to text or call your child or call the school office.
What To Tell Your Child About School Lockdowns
When talking to your child about a school lockdown, do not approach the conversation in a scary context. Instead, be matter of fact. We teach children to wear seatbelts to increase their safety in the event of an automobile accident. We practice lockdowns so that our students are able to remain focused and respond appropriately to the situation.
· Reassure children that schools are safe and that the teachers and staff care about them.
· Remind your child to take the drills seriously.
· Remind your child to look to adults for directions. If the students are on the field the adults may need to take the students off campus and away from the school.
· Remind your child that if s/he is in the restroom to lock the door and stay quiet.
· Remind your child not to use his or her phone so they are listening to the directions of the teacher.
· Do not over talk about the topic.
Closing Suggestions
Beware of the news reports you are watching or listening to around children.
Beware of the social media your child is exposed.
