N-S Elementary At-Home Activities
(for a Coronavirus school closure)
Message from the Principal:
No one could have predicted the events that have taken place over our spring break concerning the growing concern over the coronavirus pandemic. Just know our district is doing everything we possibly can to keep your child safe. There is a post going around quoting what a school superintendent said in a letter. He said, "In the end it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much, but it will be QUITE apparent if we under reacted or did to little." Please keep this in mind as we navigate these uncharted waters.
Many schools are also providing ways for students to continue learning at home. I have compiled links for you to use at home to keep our children learning. See the red buttons as you scroll below. If you have any questions about any of the programs, please contact your child's teacher. If you cannot reach your child's teacher, please email me at atkinsl@nixonsmily.net. I have included the district announcements in case you have not seen them. We hope you can take advantage of the grab and go free meals the school will be providing. Please keep scrolling. There is a lot of information in this newsletter.
I wish you all the best and I will miss seeing your children's smiling faces on Monday. Please tell your child Mrs. Atkins misses them and I hope they enjoy the access to their programs and other fun activities.
Thank you,
Mrs. Atkins

Letter from our Superintendent, Dr. Lauer
Dear Everyone,
Nixon-Smiley CISD campuses will remain closed until March 23, 2020.
It has become clear that NSCISD needs to extend Spring Break for another week. I know this is a huge inconvenience for some of you, but the administration and Board of Trustees have made this decision in the best interest of students and staff. We can not put it off any longer.
All children under the age of 18 will be eligible for "grab and go" breakfast and lunch for the week of March 16th - 20th. Details on where meals can be picked up and the hours available will be forthcoming.
We do not yet know if students will need to make up this time. We also don't know what the next steps will be after this initial closing. Therefore, please continue to watch our Facebook page and website (www.nixonsmiley.net) for additional information as it is available.
Thank you!
Cathy L. Lauer, Ph.D.
Superintendent
